Preschool Volunteering

DD will be starting preschool this year.  At registration, there was a table set up for volunteering opportunities at the school.  I'm just curious, for those who have already done this, what does a "room mom" do, exactly?  Is it time consuming?

Hmm. At our preschool, the room moms seem to be the ones who work with the teachers to coordinate the classroom parties and help with field trips. I think it does take some work to coordinate with other parent volunteers, plan games, snacks, etc. Our room moms always seem to be ladies who have had kids attend the school before. I don't mind volunteering to help with things at school. I don't know if I'd want the responsibility of being a room mom. It might be fun, though!

At my kids' preschool, I help with the classroom and any field trips. We went to the pumpkin patch today and for a hayride. It can be time-consuming sometimes, but usually fun. I get a discount on the preschool cost by volunteering too.
