Hi,

I don't really know why I'm posting this...I don't have any info on surgical or other medical procedures. Possibly they can try to create twins via IVF?

As I understand it, just going by natural luck, identical twins (that is one egg that splits in two) are totally random, chance occurrences, I *think* approx 1 in 10,000 births. Fraternal twins (your ovaries release two eggs simultaneously) do run in families - do you have any twins in your family? I also believe that the chance of having twins increases slightly with age. Some genetic groups are more prone to it too....I read once about a village in Africa somewhere where fraternal twins are born something like one in 20 births!

Anyway, *IF* you do not already have kids (you don't say)...I would recommend trying your hand at one first anyway! If I couldn't have napped when my newborn did, and had 24/7 one-on-one time to practice first-time breastfeeding etc, I don't know what I would have done. I also think that the pregnancy/birth would be more challenging and "high-risk" with multiples. Obviously people do it and survive. But what a challenge in the early years, my goodness! I admire parents of twins no end!

Good luck on your quest and enjoy your baby(babies)!

Hi! I have identical twin girls who just turned a year old on Saturday. I'm pretty sure there's not any type of operation available to conceive twins. Identical occur spontanously, and there's nothing you can do to increase your chances of having identicals. However fraternal twins can run in families, and if you take fertility drugs or do IVF your chances slighly increase for having fraternal twins. Good luck, and I hope you get your twins--I know I sure love having mine!!!!!!!Kelly with twins Bailey and Jaidyn (12 mos) and baby due 11/13

The country in Africa that the previous poster spoke of consumes large amounts of yams in their diets, scientists believe that is the reason for their twin rate, it has something to do with natural plant estrogens in them. FYI, you can buy yam pills at the heathfood store, although I do not know if this would be adverse in any way. You should probably do some research on the web or speak to your nurse or physician. ***Good Luck!***
