Hi,

We just decided to try and I went of BCP in Mid-may. However, my question is w.r.t travel esp. air travel during pregnancy. My jobs put me on the road every so often. I mostly fly all over the United States, about once or twice a month not more.

I might have read somewhere that flying in the first trimester is not advisable...is this true?? What are the general guidelines on flying and other kids of travel by road/trains etc?? It is too early to ask my OBGYN all this as I am not yet pg!

Any advice/pointers would be great!

Thanks,

V.

I really don't think that it is too early to every ask a question to your OB/GYN. I have also read that but I also travel a day trip to Houston every month. He told me that that is fine until I get into my 7th month. Then we would talk about what to do. There have been no studies that like airplanes to miscarriages. I did a search and came up with no medical reason. My dr says that it could happen but the odds are on our side that the airplane causes a miscarriage. A M/C would most likely be caused from another medical reason. I would clarify this with your doctor. Let us know what they say. And girls~if you know any reason that flying should be avoided let us know. I would never want to risk my little one to something I could have prevented.

I have never heard of a mode of transportation that is harmful during pregnancy. They say not to fly your last month in case you go into labor. Airplanes are pressurized, so it's like sitting in your living room. They have pregnant stewardesses, so it's a safe bet to say it's just fine.

It may be different for everyone, but I flew many times throughout my entire pregnancy. It should be alright, but if you are concerned, take with your doctor :)
