Charting questions

Hi All-

Have not posted in awhile but it is great to read everyone's updates! So exciting :) My sister just did a girl "sway" (just timing, no supps) and I am anxious to hear if it worked for her -- her big US is April 1!

So I have a question that I am hoping people can help with! I have been charting for a few months now in preparation of a girl sway. Despite the fact that I am still occasionally nursing, I have found that my cycle is darn regular! 21 days in between end of one cycle and start of the next (although the "end" of one is sometimes difficult to get entirely accurate).

The issue is I am having no luck with temperature or CF to determine when I Ovulate. Temps are not at all regular (I try really hard to be consistent with timing but still no luck getting a "pattern"), and CF is even less predictable -- sometimes I am heavy on the CF within a few days of the last day of my cycle, and sometimes I dont have any noticeable CF until right before the next one starts!

Is there a different way to tell? Should I get the ovulation predictors, and do you do those every day, or just certain days?

Any insight or suggestions are appreciated! I have time as I dont plan to TTC until at least August (DH is an acct so another tax season baby is forbidden, HAHA)

Thanks Ladies!

Hmm, that is strange about your temps. Have you tried using fertility friend to chart? I have not used it myself, but I know that it calculates your expected O date for you. Perhaps it would help you figure it out. As far as OPK, they can work great, but remember that they will be most helpful for practice cycles. As for when to use them, I wouldn't do them everyday because they are so expensive, but it will be hard to when you should start them if you have no idea of O time. I suggest trying to enter some of your past charts into fertilityfriend.com and see if that helps you get any idea, and then start using the OPKs about 3 days before yo uthink you will O. Good thing we have until August to figure this out for you!

Thank you!

Ug, I am embarrassed to say that I signed up for Fertility Friend, and completely forgot to enter anything! What a spaz:) I cant believe I did that.

I'll give it a try and see if that helps. THis temperature thing is really throwing me off!

I might try the OPKs. I read somewhere that the last phase of the cycle -- cant recall the name right now -- lasts for exactly 12 days... so if that were the case then wouldnt you be able to count back 12 days from the day you start or think you'll start to know the O date? That sounds way too easy... I dont even remember where I read it so it must not be true!

Anyone have suggestions on an OPK? Brand or type?

THANKS:)

What you are referring to is the Luteal Phase, and it is from ovulation until you get period. Unfortunately its not that easy! The average is 14 days, but even that is not true for every woman. I know mine varies between 12 and 13 days, depending on the month. My friend's is considered long for a luteal phase, hers varies between 16 and 17 days. So, you can't count of that to find your O date, sorry.

As far as OPKs, I have tried several brands, and they all seem to work about equally well. I prefer the midstream ones vs the ones that up dip into a cup of your urine, but they are more expensive. IF you don't have a preference than the ones you dip can save you money. Plus most stores have their on brand too, so that could help as well. I am thinking of trying some ones that you can buy on Amazon for much less. I haven't used them before, but they are 1.55 a piece, and that is cheaper than anything I have seen at stores.

Ah-Ha -- One of those "One Size does NOT fit all" statements! Thanks:)

I think I'll try the OPKs and see what I can figure out. The temperature thing is really difficult with a 2 yr old who does not sleep thru the night... I am guessing I cant get anything accurate because i cant get a long enough stretch of sleep.

CF I thought would be easier since its pretty easy and quick to observe, but the timing has been wacky. I'll keep trying that though. I have a little time to figure it out.

I am not positive as I was not diligently charting, but just based on CF, and the few temps I did take, I think with my son I conceived a day before O. So this time I want to try a longer cut-off (like 5 or so days at first) to see how it goes, and then gradually work up to a shorter. So narrowing down the O is kind of important:)

Thanks for the suggestions on the OPKs. I need to get some and get this figured out because the temping is just stressing me out.
