Safety of girl supplements?

Hi all, I have been lurking for a bit in the past year as I have fantasized about having a daughter. I have a wonderful son Samuel who is 17 months old today. I have been talking with DH about TTC our next child in 2008. Since I am a SAHM and my husband has a job he enjoys but will never make great money at, we know we can only responsibly have two kids. I would really love to have a daughter, and I know many of you are in the same boat.

OK so here's my problem:
DH is cool with TTC for a girl using timing of sex to our best advantage, but anything like diet modification or supplements he is not comfortable with. He says that he feels that things that would drastically change my "environment" to a dry or acidic one might damage the sperm, and then we might get pregnant with a damaged embryo, resulting in a handicapped or deformed child. I know, it sounds silly to me too, but he is serious about it and I can't find any info that says explicitly "You aren't going to do damage to your sperm or subsequent baby by taking these supplements and having a dry/acidic environment."
So, how can I make him feel comfortable? Does anyone know of a place I could find info about the safety of taking cranberry, Lydia Pinkham's, douches, etc?

If I cannot reassure him, then I don't feel very hopeful of really swaying our odds for a baby girl, since I got pregnant like *that* with Sam because I have always had an overabundance of EWCM for many many many days during my cycle. :) Sorry TMI, but you ladies can handle it. :) I don't know if I can even get pregnant before the EWCM appears, it always starts around day 8! Relying on timing alone, I can't even go with a 48hr cutoff, it'd have to be like a 5 day cutoff to avoid the EW.

Thanks! I hope to join the board full-force around February!
