TTC baby boy #2 any advice?

Hey everyone,

I have a 6 month old baby boy and would love another boy close in age (Of course my main concern is a healthy baby). I just got my AF last night so I will be trying right after this ends. I'm still breastfeeding at night and I pump once during the day . I've read about the shettles method and would like to try it My last AF started on January 23 and this one didn't start until last night February 28? I'm not sure if BFing makes much of a difference on when I ovulate but I would love to hear any advice. Should I buy some Ovulation tests? I want to start trying ASAP so not much time to practice.

I wish everyone luck conceiving a healthy baby and hopefully the gender you prefer!

Welcome to the board. I am blessed with two boys that I swayed for. As far as swaying while bfing, its not recommended, mainly because it messes with your O timing so much. You say you have read about Shettles method, did you read about it online or actually read his book? For me, his book was my only and best tool. You really need to purchase it or check it out from your local library. Obviously, I am a big supporter as I have had it work twice, and my SIL also used this book to have her son after two girls.
Using OPKs can be helpful but you need to use them differently than the box says. I have directions somewhere that I will cut and past for you in another post.

As far as not having time to practice, swaying is a lot like life in general, you get what you put into it. Most of the ladies on here having been preparing for ttc for months before their first attempt. For both of my boys, I charted my cycles to pinpoint O and knew all of Shettles suggestions for having sex so that I felt comfortable. Its up to you how serious about this you want to be. Obviously, its not 100% anyway so you need to gauge your own desires of having another boy vs. a girl.

I'll post again with the basics of shettles method and how to use opks when I find it in another post.
Good luck, and keep us updated!

Here is something that I wrote a couple of months go, please let me know if you have any questions! Good luck...

For a boy, you want to DTD on O day exactly, not before or after. So for both of my boys, we did not DTD for 4 days prior to O, then on O day, we DTD, using the boy position and technique given by Dr. Shettles. Some of the basic points of Dr. Shettles boy attempt are as follows, but I still recommend you read the book too....
1. For a boy, abstain from sex (and any ejaculation for DH) for at least 4 days prior to O. That preserves a higher sperm count, which favors boy sperm.
2. DTD exactly when you O. You want to be as close as possible to the time the egg drops, because boy sperm are faster and will make it to the egg before girl sperm.
3. DTD "doggy style" as deep penetration means the sperm is deposited closest to the cervix, and again this favors the faster boy sperm.
4. Have DH drink caffeine about 45 minutes before the attempt. Caffeine speeds up the body, including sperm, so this gives the boy sperm an even faster start. You need about 45 minutes before it shows up in the sperm. Caffeine for mom is NOT recommended.
5. You need to have an orgasm, preferably right before DH, this changes the acidity of your vag, and makes it more hospitable to boy sperm.
Now, since you asked about actual ovulation day...
It sounds like you know what kind of CM to look for, if you have peak EWCM for two days, then wait and DTD on the second day of peak CM. So, in your example, its likely that you O'd on day 15.
If you would like to use OPK, for sex selection its recommended that you use them TWICE a day, not the way the box says. You want to test 2 times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening and try to test about 10 hours apart. You want to do this because if you only test once a day in the morning, your LH surge may show up at night, but you didn't test, so the surge you see the next morning is actually several hours old. Its hard to explain, but the Shettles book goes into full details on this and it makes perfect sense.
The best research says that ovulation occurs 30 hours after you first detect the surge. So you need to test twice a day to get as accurate of a time that is possible. So, when you get your first positive on the OKP, you should plan to DTD about 24 hours from that point.
You should use OPK in addition to charting and and temping to get the most accurate info. ITs recommended that you chart for at least three months so you know what works for you. For instance, you might get peak CM for two days, so you know to wait until the second day. Or maybe during your practice cycles you see that you get positive OKP for four days, meaning that you O later than 30 hours after the first. Practice and patience are key to ttc a certain gender.

Thank you so much for all the advice and help. We are waiting this month to TTC because we'd rather wait so I wouldn't be due around Christmas. So April we will start trying. I pretty much stopped breastfeeding except for maybe 2 sessions throughout 24 hours. Hopefully I will have a chance to run out and buy the book but everything you said sounds easy enough except timing the ovulation scares me. I know I have to get it right and I'm so afraid I wont. I'll just stay very in tuned with my body this month and next month I will be using the OPK's. I hope we can conceive another boy but mainly just another healthy baby, thanks again for all your help.
