Epidurals - will you have one?

I've had epidurals for surgeries so I know what it's like, and it freaked me out too much not to move my legs!!

I really want to give birth med free like my mom did.

Well on day 1 of my induction on pitocin, I labored for 10ish hours without it and was 1cm by the end of the day (induction started at 11am, labor started around 1230 and they took me off at 9pm with contrax ending around 10am). On day 2 of my induction (labor never started naturally for me), they put me back on the drip at 530am and was told the doc would get there by 8am. He didnt show up until 10am at which point I was in a lot of pain and really frustrated and feeling hopeless (they told me at 9am that I had 6 more hours or I would need a c-section) which added to my pain. Then because of an old injury in my back and chronic pain, the usual place to put an epi was not tolerable to me (it was too sensitive). He had to try 3 times to get it in so instead of 5-10 minutes like I was told it takes for most women, it took them 30 minutes. Between trying to stay still, cope with the contrax which were faster than the day before (even though I wasnt progressing much yet) and the extreme pressure and pain of the epi being administered itself, it was really awful. Plus I hated the bed ridden helpless feeling once it kicked in...I felt like my entire body weighed 500 lbs and not being able to move and not finding any comfortable position was awful. The only reason I agreed to it was I was so tired (my water broke 28 hours before they even started the induction, and I spent the day and night at the hospital not able to sleep on the stupid delivery bed) and because the nurse who never recommended epi's said it may be helpful in my case. I was coping quite well without it but my body wasnt progressing. Ugh...I so hope my next go around isnt like the last one. All that said, It wasnt a terrible labor and delivery overall, it could have been worse. I guess looking back I did have horrible back pain for a long time too but for all the side effects I could have had, the back pain was just fine (my mom had a terrible spinal/epidural headache for 4 days post-delivery for my brother, I was so fearful that would be me too).
