How soon will you/ should you tell your employer you are pregnant?

  • Immediately after family/ friends know
  • 4-8 weeks into pg
  • 8-12 weeks into pg
  • I have a different time in mind - here's why below.
  • I won't tell anyone other than DH/SO until this time (please explain)

I voted "immediatly after family and friends know" which will be at the end of the first trimester/beginning of the second trimester. Six months is plenty of time for them to figure out how they will fill my position while I'm on mat leave, so I don't feel the need to say anything beforehand (and I certainly wouldn't want word to get out at work if I had an early miscarriage.)

The current plan is to keep it between DH and I for the first trimester, but there's a small chance that I will want to share the news with my mom and/or a couple close girlfriends before this.

I voted 8-12 weeks into pg because that is when the first heartbeat is typically detected.

Sometime during the second trimester - likely near the beginning.

My sister had a mc at 11 weeks and it was atrocious.

i just don't know what will be right for me. my situation is so odd. i am the only employee for a small business. it's just myself and my boss. although i actually work not only for her but for her son ( i work as a photographer for her son, and work in the photo lab for her) Also, her son ( my other boss) and his wife are actually really good friends too. So both sides will be kind of in a tight spot since i'm the only employee.

and the lady boss, she will most likely act like i'm personally offending her and putting her in a bad spot on purpose. but i'm sorry, i can't put my life on hold forever because my giving birth is inconvenient for her.

I don't work, so I won't have to tell anyone!

I chose the first one because I think we would wait to tell our family/friends that we were pregnant until the 2nd trimester (excluding parents - we would probably tell them before that). I think telling my employer at that time would give us enough time to figure things out.

In my mind, there is no good reason to do it during the first trimester because there is a much higher chance of miscarriage. I wouldn't want people knowing I was pregnant and then losing the baby.

Thanks to Tara from Signature Showcase for my wonderful siggie!

I won't tell until it gets obvious. Definitely not until the risk of mc is neglible.

I voted 4-8 weeks into pregnancy - pretty much as soon as I know.

I won't tell anyone until probably 23 wks if I can physically hide my pregnancy that long (they say you get bigger faster with subsequent pregnancies) When I was pg with DS, I told my parents that they were going to be grandparents again when I was 15 wks. I should have waited until after my first u/s at 17 wk, because I had to call them back and tell them that there was something wrong with the baby. It was so hard to do. I want to be sure the next time that everything is fine before I tell any one.
