Would you name your child after a loved one? I definitely want to use my grandmother's name as a middle name for my first born daughter!

All 3 of my children have family names.

Garrett Todd - Garrett was DH's paternal grandmothers maiden name; Todd was my maternal grandmothers maiden name

Jesse Thomas - Jesse was DH's maternal grandfathers name; Thomas is after my dad

Leanna Claire - Leanna was my paternal great grandmother's name; Claire is after DH's great Aunt (her name is Clara, but Leanna Clara just didn't go IMO)

The last one, we have a boy name for - Curtis James - Curtis was DH's paternal grandfather and James is after my cousin (it was his last name) and my favorite Uncle.

Totally! I think that's a wonderful way to honor your grandmother.

My oldest ds has the middle name of my dh's maternal grandpa, he was very close to him and died right after dh graduated college. One of the twins has the middle name of my dh, and the other one has the middle name of my dad.

Simon has a combo middle name. My fathers name is Don and my FIL's middle name is Calvin so Simon's middle name is Donavin. If we have a little girl her middle name will be Kaye as my mom is Kay and my MIL is Kae for their middle names.

Melissa: Those are beautiful names!!

CM Melissa: Indeed! I miss her terribly! That is nice you used family names! My sister used my grandfather's name as a middle name for her son as he died not long after he was born...

Cassie: Smart ideas! I haven't thought of combining names!

I plan on doing all middle names after people. First boy y would have s/o's middle name (we have a name picked for when the time comes merely because he only likes on name. & he liked his middle name better with it than his first) First girl will have mother's name for middle, and if a second girl it will have so's mother/my grandmother's name for middle. Basically a boy & two girls would be an ideal naming situation. ^^

The verdict is out on this with me and DH. If we have a boy, I think the perfect middle name would be Patrick, because it's my brother's middle name, and my grandmother and his mom's name are both Patricia. But he isn't a fan of Patrick.

Other than that, I don't have another family member's name that I'm really fond of. I like the ideal of borrowing a name from elsewhere in the family, but only if I liked the name itself. I'll have to think of others though - I don't know the middle names of all my grandparents, for example.

Our son has two middle names...DH's grandfather's first name and my DH's first name.

I would only really use family names for middle names, unless the person is passed on. The only family name I would consider for a first name is Emma, my great-grandmother. She was a key figure in my life. Other than that, I would rather my child have his own name and honor family with the middle name option.

Ruby: Emma is one of my favorite names!

DS1 is named after his late biological grandfather and his bio-dad.
DS2's middle name is after my late brother, his first name we picked because we liked the meaning.

We have names picked out for #3 already for a boy or girl after my late-stepdad and DH's grandmother.
