Periods after stopping BC
Sat, 01-19-2013 - 9:38am

Hi everyone!  I haven't posted here in quite a while but I have a question.  I've been on the pill for approximately 13 years.  I stopped at one point during that time for about 6 months or so when I had no insurance, and my cycles were slightly longer than normal but it wasn't a big deal.  My husband and I are starting to think about  TTC, so we decided that I should stop my BC again.  I finished out my pill pack and had my normal "fake" period, and nothing since then.  We have been careful about using protection every time.  Today is cycle day 40 with no AF.  I have had occasional PMS symptoms like cramps and breast pain, but no period yet.  I imagine it can take a while for the body to figure things out and start ovulating again, but I was looking for other experiences.  Should I be concerned?  At what point should I GET concerned?  I tested today and it was negative, BTW.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think you need to be concerned yet, I think it will take several months for all the hormones to be out of your body and your cycle to get regulated. You could ask your doctor for something to start AF if it doesn't show up soon. It might help get your cycle kickstarted.

I wasn't on the pill as long as you were but I recall my cycle taking a little extra time to regulate.  I also just got my Mirena removed and I think it's taking a little extra time to regulate this time too :-/
