Big storm in Memphis....

Y'all, I'm sooooo bored!! Yesterday morning a huge storm with 100 mph winds blew through Memphis. It came through around 7 am, and I left for work around 7:30. I live in a suburb outside of Memphis, and while it hit us pretty hard, I had no idea the damage I would see when I drove into Memphis. Half of the city is without power, and trees and power lines are down everywhere. The area around my office was hit pretty bad, and when I got to work (finally--it took a while with all the stop lights out), other people in management had already decided to tell people to go home and that we would be closed for the day. We knew there was little chance of getting power back that day. Well, here it is 2 business days later, and we're all still sitting at home. I have SOOO much work to do--I'm the system manager and our computers have been off for a day and a half now. Our phone system is old and we decided after a consultation a year ago that it was too costly to replace, but we were given a warning that if it was "down"--without power--for more than a few hours it may not come back up. Our core business is making telephone calls (we have a call center)--so I sure hope our phones come back up!! This week being off is going to get me really behind in all of my work, and I really will need to work this weekend, but DH and I have been planning a trip to my dad's for the weekend. We have to go--it's been months since we've seen him, and it's hard for him to get a weekend off. URG!!

I'm so frustrated and bored here at the house. DH was off with me yesterday, but his office got power today so they are back at work. My house is clean, the laundry is done, the yard doesn't need any work, and I don't want to go shopping (well, it would be nice, but I'd rather not spend the money). So here I sit. Luckily my internet is up. I feel so lazy with nothing to do. DH will be home soon!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Isn't it funny how when you're at work, sometimes all you think about is being at home, but when you're not at work getting things done that need to be done, you get frustrated. It's good that you're okay. I've never been in a bad storm. Living in Southern Oregon, we get all types of weather, but it's more mild than most places. During boring times for me, my mind begins to wander onto the subject of TTC. I've been having a lot of boring times lately which becomes hard. Our TTC date is August 4 though so it's only about a week and a half away. YAY!!!

You're ttc in August too right? I hope all of your preparations are going well. A suggestion during boring times is to think of things you won't be able to do once you are pregnant and get out and do them!!!

That is exactly how I feel! I can't figure out why I get so tired of working all day and just think of how nice it would be to be at home. Today has been much better; I approached the day with the thought that I would enjoy my day off rather than worrying about the power being out at work. (Yes, it's been 3 days now, and counting...) Today I went to DH's office to bring him his hamburger bun he forgot to take. I brought my leftover burger from our cookout the other night and we ate in his office. He's been working there 3 1/2 years and I've never seen his office, so it was certainly a treat. I got to see all his "electrical stuff" in his office. He showed me some boards he's worked on designing and just reaffirmed my feelings that I married a genius! :-)

After lunch, I finally made time to go by the scrapbooking store and buy some stuff to get started on my scrapbook. I've been meaning to do that since early July. I also went by Hallmark to get cards for all of the upcoming birthdays. I went by WalMart for more scrapbooking stuff. I felt like I had a very productive afternoon! Now I'm working on dinner, and DH will be home in a few minutes!

Hopefully the power will be on at work tomorrow and I can actually get some work done!!!

Nicki, are you back to work yet! Wow! I can't believe how long people have been without power since that storm blew through! I'm glad you had a productive day yesterday, at least.

Yes, the power came on at our office late Thursday night, so I was able to go back to work on Friday. Just in time to get stuff done at work before going out of town for the weekend. DH & I drove 5 hours to see my dad, brother, sister-in-law, and most importantly, my precious 17 month old newphew Cole! He is so precious! I got to play with my new digital camera, and I got some cute pictures & video clips to show to my mom & grandma (his grandma & great-grandma). I can't wait until we have a baby of our own to love on all the time!
