Hi! I'm Margot and I've got the fever...

...the baby fever! I've been lurking on and off for months but as DH and I have agreed to start TTC in October 2009, I finally registered to post. Poor DH can't be expected to absorb ALL my madness all by his lonesome, can he? :)

DH: Eddy, 29, works for a large multination corporation to remain nameless, currently more than a year through a Brussels, Belgium rotation.

Me: Margot, 28, happily unemployed for the time being and enjoying life as an expat housewife in Brussels. (Lots of opportunities for travel and great food, our two main hobbies!)

We've been married 4 years but together since college, and are just about ready to expand our little circle of love to include a tiny munchkin.

Why we're waiting: Well, actually DH says we can start whenever I'm ready. I realize I am very fortunate in that I don't have to convince him! But because we live overseas with no close friends or family nearby, it's really important to me that my mom and sister be able to come stay with us around the end of the pregnancy/first months of baby's life. Since they're both teachers, that means I NEED a summer baby = try to conceive this fall. We're planning a Florida vacation around a friend's wedding in October, so that's our target D-Day, so speak, all depending on my cycle of course.

So far: DH and I just went for a very thorough physical at the same hospital where I hope to deliver. It's very close to our home and has an excellent reputation, so I wanted to check it out. The doctor was lovely and said I'm in good shape and everything looks good to go, which was nice to hear. I've been having these totally irrational fears, before we even start TTC, that something is wrong and we'll have problems. Stupid, I know. But I'm kind of a worrywart by nature. Just hope all the blood tests he's running come back fine.

The doc we saw is also a personal friend of, and so referred me to, the OB/GYN who delivered Princess Astrid's daughters. I can't wait for that appointment next week. :) Only problem is the OB/GYN doesn't speak English. Can I handle gynecology/pregnancy/labor and delivery 100% in French for the sake of getting the “royal treatment”? Hmm. Stay tuned.

I have four pills left in my current BCP pack, and then it's finito! I'll start charting and hope for an easy return to a regular cycle.

Thanks for reading! I am so looking forward to having y'all around to share the ups and downs and mild obsessiveness.

Hi Margot!

It's nice that you decided to post- I know you are going to have a lot of fun here with us!

You also aren't too far away from me- I'm in Hamburg, Germany.

I think your plan is a great one but I would also encourage you to work on learning the language and making some friends whether Belgium or ex-pats- as that will make a huge difference in terms of feeling comfortable and happy during the pregnancy as well.

Can't wait to read more posts from you!

I'm Ashley (23) and my husband is Thomas (28).

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, ladies!

Kate -- Your son is adorable! I love the name Raymond, too--traditional and strong, but with heart. :)

Ashley -- I read your blog before deciding to register here. CONGRATULATIONS on all your news! So happy for you. Looking forward to hearing about your whole pregnancy experience in Germany, too, to see how different or similar it is to the Belgian system. Re: language, I actually speak really good French; I'm just a little daunted by the very specialized vocabulary one might need chez le gynecologue. I'll just have to do some extra research before my appointments. Comment se dit-on “luteal phase” en francais? ;)

Jessica -- What a pretty sig you have. I will definitely say hello on the Buddy Board. It will be great to discuss with girls who are on basically the same schedule. Your vacation sounds wonderful! September is a fabulous time to visit since kids are back in school but the weather's still very summery.

Oh well then- Don't worry! That is great that you can speak French!!!

Gyno speak is a special language anyways :D My gyno liked finding out what charting was called for example- plus some times the German words aren't really used- since most Germans are much less aware of the real names of medical conditions in comparison to America- for example something like strep throat would always just be called a virus/cold/or infection.

October is really coming up quickly- I hope you get your BFP right away!!
