I'm worried about insurance coverage and having a baby. Insurance through DH work is way too expensive for what it offers. I have had coverage (just basic) through school for the last nine months, but I will graduate in 2 days and that coverage will end. I found a new policy that I started a couple weeks ago. The problem, this new company doesn't do maternity until a year is up (I found that most do this). There is a way to get credits which I think I can do. Does anyone know anything about insurance companies and how this type of thing works. I've just been reading the papers over and over again trying to figure it out and I'm afriad that I am skewing it one way in my mind, so I feel like it's okay to begin trying. I don't want to get pregnant without insurance, but I don't want to wait a year before we ttc. Any suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Oh, that is bad. I would chgeck deeper into the one year policy. I have never heard of that because pregnancy is not even a PREexisting condition and insurnace cannot NOT accept you if you are already pregnant.

If thye do not pay for the first year ... I would wait to TTC ... the doctor bills are high!! Check around!!

Sorry, I won't be of much help either....but I've heard opposite of Yvonne...that it can be considered a pre-existing condition to some companies. Which may or may not be the case. I thought it wasn't, but my mom says it is where she works.....anyway, I would look again, and call and ask questions if you're still unclear. Hope it works out. I don't blame you for not wanting to wait a year!!

Sorry, but I have definitely heard of the pre-existing condition and one year waiting period on insurance policies with regard to pregnancy. Pregnancy can be VERY expensive, so I would either try to find a different policy, use your DH's (even though it is more expensive than you want), or wait to TTC. I'm sorry because I'm sure this is not the news you'd like to hear!!!

I looked into it more yesterday and it seems like it will all work out okay. My previous insurance covered pregnancy so this one should too. I think they are mainly worried about people signing up for their insurance just to use it for what they need it for and then cancel it. I will do a little more review before I commit to the company, but as of now, it looks like it's a go!!
