Hi, my name is Emily and my husband's name is Chris. We have been married almost six months. This is my second marriage, and I am almost 28, Chris is 35. He has a son from a previous relationship. My first marriage lasted 7 years, and thankfully we didn't have children, though I was dying to at the time. My issue is that I would love to be in a position where Chris and I could starting trying to conceive... but I KNOW we are not in a position financially to be able to do so. We live in a very rural and economically depressed area, and good jobs are scarce. We are just scraping by with just the two of us, so I know that the responsible thing is to wait until we are more financially secure, and have our own home (we live in a very small cabin-type-thing.).

Hi, and welcome to the board! :) I'm Jenn, (32) and DH is Will (31). We have an 18 month old daughter, and we're waiting to TTC our 2nd. I want to lose weight before we conceive.

I don't have any experience with actively trying to conceive, because I was pregnant with my daughter the first month we took the "whatever happens happens" approach and didn't actively prevent. I want to preface everything by saying that it's very possible your fertility is fine. However, there could be many correctible reasons you didn't get pregnant during the times you mentioned. I know someone with more experience will chime in here, but I'd suggest starting to chart your cycles so you'll have a lot of information and practice for when you're actually ready to try. It seems a lot of people use fertility friend, which has tutorials about fertility and charting, and has free charting tools to help you keep track of when you're fertile. I have lurked a lot on the TTC while breastfeeding board (because I'm still pumping breast milk for my daughter), and have learned a lot there about fertility and ways to correct fertility problems. Reading some of the TTC boards might help you feel better about the tools that are available to help you get pregnant when you're ready.

Hi Emily! Welcome to the board!

I'm Victoria, 29, and DH and I are WTT our first! I second what Jenn said: perhaps charting could help you. Have you talked to your doctor about the side effects? I am not familiar with it, perhaps someone is and can add her two cents!

Thanks for the replies! Charting would probably help once I get off the Depo shot, but right now while I'm on it, I haven't had any real periods to speak of. I have occasional spotting, but what Depo Provera does is it suppresses ovulation so you don't actually have a menstrual cycle. Not having a period has been kind of nice... but I am looking forward to having a cycle again someday when we're ready to start trying... : )
