I've never been this excited to go see the dreaded doctor! :-) This will be my visit where I talk to my doctor about preconception. Hopefully I won't start AF tomorrow--it's supposed to be Tuesday (bcp works like clockwork!!). I'm getting nervous about making actual decisions about when we're actually going to TTC. I was thinking we could go off the pill and start immediately. Well, I just finished a pack, so I'm not going to buy another. But, if we get pregnant on the first cycle, which would probably be about the beginning of August, we would give birth in late April or early May, and as crazy as this sounds, I'd like to let DH get another good turkey hunting season under his belt before fatherhood. He LOVES turkey hunting and while I know he would give it up for my needs and for a precious son or daughter, I don't want to make him do that if possible. So, since turkey season usually ends at the end of April, if we get pg on the 2nd cycle, that would put us getting pg around the end of August, so that would put the birth futher back in May or June, which would be perfect!! Of course, it could be later than that if it takes longer, and I guess I need to be prepared for that too. I hope all my dating is right; I'll talk to my dr more about it tomorrow. Yay!

Wish me luck!! :-)

I hope your appointment goes good!! How exciting! Too funny about turkey hunting (you are such a compassionate wife!) My best friend's DH dear hunts and it just so happens both of their kids were born 2 weeks into hunting season in November. Boy was he bummed! you should see her try to schedule birthday parties!

Good luck... Let us know what's involved in your appointment. I never had a preconception appointment with DS. I just went off the pill and got pregnant the next month.

I know how you feel. Mine is next tuesday and for some reason, I can't wait! Yikes, it is scary when you say you can't wait to go to see the obgyn. I usually dread going to the yearly thing. Good luck and be sure to ask lots of questions. Don't be shy!

Is your DH going with you?

My exam went well! It's on the 3rd time I've seen that doctor, but I think I really like her. The last two times I guess we didn't really have much to talk about. I told her I was ready to go off the pill (conveniently my Rx just ran out!), and we talked about preconception stuff. She started to prescribe a prenatal vitamin, but I told her I take Centrum daily, and she acknowledged that has plenty of folic acid and plenty of other stuff I need, so she told me to keep taking that. She told me not to bother with temping; since my cycles were so regular before the pill, I'd probably be fine. I have a big decision to make about where to have the baby; she is only occasionally at the hospital where I want to deliver, so I may reconsider. DH didn't go with me today, since it was really just my annual, but my dr told me her group practices at the hospital near DH's work (and still convenient for me), so when we are pg and start with the appts I would want him at, he could easily come.

I'm so excited!!! Thanks for asking!

I'm so glad your appointment went well. I still haven't had one (because I can't make up my mind on the type of Dr./midwife I want). I may just end up going without a preconception visit because I can't make up my mind. It sounds like you have a good doctor. Is the hospital she practices at convenient for you to deliver? Is your doctor and OB/GYN or a FP? We'll be trying in August too. I just can't believe how close it is!!!

August IS getting very close!! I'm so excited!

My dr is an OB doctor. She practices with a group that works at all of the major hospitals in Memphis, and the one I want to deliver at is pretty convenient for us as far as the delivery goes. For office visits, it's out of the way because DH works on the other side of the metro area. But there is a hospital on his side that would be fine for office visits and I COULD deliver there but I just don't want to. I work for a medical billing company, and we do the billing for the Methodist hospitals in Memphis. Therefore, I would much rather deliver at Methodist, that way I know that if I have any billing issues, they will be resolved by my buddy Jason who sits at the desk next to me! I can also increase our company's bottom line! (Not by much, but every little bit helps!) So that is all about how I made my decision.

My dr seemed very casual about the pre-conception part of our appointment, which put me at ease. You'd probably be fine without an appt if you've always had normal cycles and never had any major problems. That's pretty much my story, so I'm not very worried--just extremely excited.

I'm having a very hard time not telling my family about this yet--I tell my grandma everything and it's getting hard not to share this major decision with her, but DH and I really want to wait until we're pregnant to announce it. So I'm holding it all in!

I know how you feel about not wanting to share the news. It's tough, but I think for us it will just be better to know that we are pg before we share the news that we are trying. Especially if it takes a while to conceive, I don't want the pressure of others asking how it's going. We are also, planning to keep it a secret once we conceive until Thanksgiving (if we conceive in the next couple months). We will wait until the Christmas cards go out, to share it with non-close friends and family. I'm getting so so excited about trying. We will begin trying three weeks from yesterday. We're waiting for our second anniversary which is August 4th. I won't ovulate though until the 11th or so, so that's really when we will begin realistically trying. I checked up with my insurance co. today just to make sure everything was good. I'm still worried about picking a doctor or mid-wife, I just find such good points about each. I may go to my FP and see if she has a mid-wife she works with so I can use both. I just don't know. Oh well, can't stress too much especially with all the joy I'm feeling because we are so close to trying!!! Keep me updated on how things are going for you. I think even harder than wtt will be waiting the 2 weeks after ovulation for AF or to test. I hope for both of us that we see a BFP (Big Fat Positive) by the end of August.
