Hello everyone! I had posted an introduction on this board a while back but never really came back as a regular poster. I figured now might be the time to re-introduce.
My name is Erin, and my fiance is John and we are getting married on May 22. We recently bought a fixer-upper house, and we are both struggling to get settled into our careers. He has a decent job but is anxiously waiting a transfer into a federal position that has been promised to him, and I'm a substitute teacher (5 years now) in an area that is inundated with teacher applicants and few jobs. We don't want to move because he has a good job now, and we purchased our house, so I'm stuck waiting in a very inconsistent income schedule. I also work part time at a local couples resort to help make ends meet.
We both agree that we want children in the future, but we recognize that our financial situation isn't stable enough yet for it. We want to get our house fixed up a bit first, take a few nice vacations, and just generally feel READY for the next step. I think we aren't quite mature enough yet...a bit too selfish. :-) Plus I think I need to be settled into a full time job for at least a year or two before I could take a maternity leave without making administration upset with me. Does anyone know anything about rules regarding teachers taking maternity leave? I always figured that to really be "safe" I should wait until past the 3 year mark so that I have tenure...but at the rate I'm going, that'll put me past 30 years old before we even begin to try, and I'm not satisfied with that.
I hope to get a full time job for next year, and while it's hard to know exactly when we will be ready, I'm hoping to start TTC our first in a few years.
Although I realize that I'm not ready, it doesn't stop the occasional baby twinges...which is why I'm here. :-)
