Hello everyone,

I was a regular poster (and a former CL) on this board up until about a year ago, but life overwhelmed me and I haven't been around for awhile. Life has finally started to calm down a little, and I've found myself missing this board. I've been browsing and I see a few familiar faces along with lots of new names. I'm really looking forward to catching up with old friends and getting to know new ones.

Here is a little information about me:

I'm 28 years old. My partner, Jamie, is 25. We have been living together for about 2.5 years, and we have a townhouse in Atlanta where we live with our two furbabies. Winston and Delilah are both rat terriers, and we treat them like our children since we don't have any of our own yet. I am a professional nanny. I have been working as a nanny for about 7 years. I put myself through college as a nanny and loved it so much that I kept doing it after I graduated. Currently I work for a family with one little girl. Sara is 15 months. And they are expecting a new baby (gender unknown) in 3-4 weeks. Jamie is a paralegal, but she also takes college classes part time, working on a BA in History/Education. She wants to be a high school history teacher, but eventually would like to get her Masters and PhD so that she can be a college professor.

We both want children very much, but we aren't quite ready for them. Ideally we'd like Jamie to be out of school first, and we'd like to build up a stronger savings. We are very interested in adopting a child from the foster care system. But I have a strong desire to experience pregnancy, so we are still considering that option as well. We have plenty of time to discuss and debate while we are WTT over the next 3-4 years.(If we can wait that long -- we both have our weak moments when we talk about speeding up our timetable significantly.) In the meantime, I'll put all my mothering energy into Sara and her new sibling.

Hi Annie!!!

It is so great to see you back here:) I was wondering what you were up to and if everything was ok. I am glad that you have a new family where you can put your loving energy towards as a nanny. I really am in awe that you can do it because I find it very hard to be around young children when I know I still have to wait.

I'm Ashley 23 as you know, and Thomas 27 and I got married here in Germany this past December and are having a MN wedding this June. We are waiting to try until around our 1 year anniversary this fall or winter. I would love to start a little sooner but Thomas still isn't sure he will be ready so we'll see. I am excited either way because it will definitely be happening in 2010 at the latest.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts again:)

Hey Annie!!

I totally remember you! It is good to see you! How do you like your job?

Idk if you remember me but I, unfortunately, am still TTCing now, 15 months later--bleh!

I mostly hang out in the grad threads below, but I still post on the rest of the board occasionally. I hope to see you around!

Welcome back Annie! I also remember you and it's nice to see a familiar face (screen name?) again.

I mostly hang out in the grad section and have been TTC for over 8 months now. My DH had a poor semen analysis results and while we are still getting some testing done to get more info, I'm also thinking of other options like you for people who can't get pg the usual way.

Thanks for the warm welcome back, everyone!

Ashley -- I want to hear about your wedding! Tell me about it or point me to an older thread about it, I'm so excited for you. I can't believe your wait is down to a year or so. I know that still seems like forever (I can totally relate!) but I remember when you first started posting and your wait was many years away!

Adrienne -- of course, I remember you. Sorry to hear that the TTC is going slowly. I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way. I'm loving my job. I actually just started a couple of weeks ago. The family that I used to work for when I posted here (remember little Henry?) moved out of state and now has infant twins as well as Henry, who is two! I'm thrilled for them, but so sad they had to leave. But I guess it works out for the best, because I really love the new family I've just started with, and I think I'll be with them a long, long time.

Sarah -- Desmond is so big! It's amazing how time flies when you are away from the board. Congrats on the new little one -- I can't wait to meet him or her!

Missy -- Sorry to hear about the poor results. Anytime you want to talk adoption or assisted reproduction or donor sperm or anything like that, don't hesitate to email me. I'm a great listener, and I've done tons and tons of research since it's been a good way to pass the time while we wait.

Yeah it is amazing how big he is now. I was actually thinking about you the other day, just thinking I hadn't seen you here or on the Baby Name boards recently.

As for bean, according the ultrasound tech she is a girl, Hazel Mira we think, now if she would stop faking me out with these continuous contractions and either get serious about them or let up for a week or two, I would be happy. I am hoping she does wait a few more days though since Desmond is sick right now, so I don't really want to deal with a newborn and sick toddler.

Yeah it is pretty funny that my timeline was dramatically shortened. I think that at first Thomas just wasn't ready and couldn't picture getting married or having kids until his thirties but we talked a lot about marriage and what would change- basically nothing, and then after a few months and me accepting that we wouldn't get engaged until 2009 and married until 2010 he had a complete turnaround and gave me an amazing proposal on our 3 year anniversary in July (well we first we had a discussion and agreed to get married and then a few weeks later he gave me an amazing proposal on the rooftop of a building- and the best part was that it was a complete surprise!).

So then we had our registry office wedding here in Germany in Dec which is the only one considered legal here and now we will have a "big" (50 people LOL) wedding in MN which will technically be just for show since we are already married but it will be my first time in the floor length white dress, with dancing, etc. on June 20th. I would love to start trying right after but Thomas is still really wanting to be 30 when the baby is born which would mean waiting until around June 2010. I REALLY don't want to wait that long and am hoping that something similar happens like getting married in terms of him quickly changing how he feels and come fall/winter- when I told him I would like to start trying that he is ready.

Here is a link to pictures from the registry wedding.

I am glad you like your new family! I can't believe your old family now has twins with a two year old, this sounds horrible but that would be like a nightmare for me:D

Oh, Hazel Mira -- that's gorgeous!

In between my last long-term nanny position and this current one, I had a six-month position with a family who had three kids and one on the way when I started. Mom was on bedrest and she and I had a lot of time to chat about names. Their older children were Violet, Asher, and Levi, and my first suggestion was Hazel. Her jaw dropped because that was their top pick and no one else ever suggested it and they'd gotten a lot of negative feedback. I also suggested Miriam nn Mira, so obviously I love both of those choices. (And ultimately, they did go with Hazel, and wound up getting tons of GREAT feedback once she was born. People were always really surprised and said they didn't know anyone under the age of 70 named Hazel, but then said they thought it was lovely and unexpected.)

I can't wait to meet her -- and here's hoping she stays put a few more days so Desmond can get over his cold!
