Hello everyone,

I was a regular poster (and a former CL) on this board up until about a year ago, but life overwhelmed me and I haven't been around for awhile. Life has finally started to calm down a little, and I've found myself missing this board. I've been browsing and I see a few familiar faces along with lots of new names. I'm really looking forward to catching up with old friends and getting to know new ones.

Here is a little information about me:

I'm 28 years old. My partner, Jamie, is 25. We have been living together for about 2.5 years, and we have a townhouse in Atlanta where we live with our two furbabies. Winston and Delilah are both rat terriers, and we treat them like our children since we don't have any of our own yet. I am a professional nanny. I have been working as a nanny for about 7 years. I put myself through college as a nanny and loved it so much that I kept doing it after I graduated. Currently I work for a family with one little girl. Sara is 15 months. And they are expecting a new baby (gender unknown) in 3-4 weeks. Jamie is a paralegal, but she also takes college classes part time, working on a BA in History/Education. She wants to be a high school history teacher, but eventually would like to get her Masters and PhD so that she can be a college professor.

We both want children very much, but we aren't quite ready for them. Ideally we'd like Jamie to be out of school first, and we'd like to build up a stronger savings. We are very interested in adopting a child from the foster care system. But I have a strong desire to experience pregnancy, so we are still considering that option as well. We have plenty of time to discuss and debate while we are WTT over the next 3-4 years.(If we can wait that long -- we both have our weak moments when we talk about speeding up our timetable significantly.) In the meantime, I'll put all my mothering energy into Sara and her new sibling.

Welcome back! I remember you as well and have wondered where you went off to! I'm more of a chronic lurker around here, but wanted to say welcome back!

I remember you, Annie!! Welcome back! It sounds like the children that you are a nanny for will be spaced like my two little ones :-)

I am Brianne-28. Eric-31 and I have a little boy who is 4 and a little girl who is 3.

OMG, I can't believe I've been gone so long that you already had your baby and he is FOUR MONTHS OLD. He's absolutely precious and I love his name. A million congrats!

We haven't set a TTC date. We call it our five-year plan, but it's probably more like four. It's just going to be a matter of seeing how things go over the next 2-3 years with work and school. Ironically, I'm the one pushing to wait longer (not because I don't want a baby, but because I want to be really settled with a big savings -- this economy scares me!). Jamie keeps saying things like, "I know it's not IDEAL, but we COULD have a baby right now. We could afford it if we buckled down. We have a spare room!" It's probably lucky for us that we can't "accidentally" get pregnant, or I have a feeling that would have happened by now.

Hi Annie, welcome back! I was relatively new here when you posted last, so I don't know if you remember me, but I remember you and it's nice to see you around here again! Great to hear that you've got a nanny position you're enjoying. And with a second little one on the way, too! How exciting.

I hang out mostly in the TTC 4+ months thread down below in the grads section... DH and I have been TTC since last summer, and after 3 miscarriages, here we are, still trying to bring a LO home. :/

Anyway, glad to have you back!!

Yeah Miriam was on our list as well, which is why when I saw Mira was a Hindi name it worked perfectly for us for a middle name. I do feel a bit bad about the name because my Grandfather just passed away 2 weeks ago, and I feel like I should use the first letter of his name G for the baby, but I really love Hazel Mira more then Gwendolyn Mira right now, so we're just going to stick with it I think. If the ultrasound was wrong though and it is a boy he'll most likely be Graeme/Graham Mohan in honor of my Grandfather.

What a gorgeous family you have! And 14 months is a fantastic age, isn't it? So much fun!

<<>>

It's a fantastic job. So exciting and rewarding. And I'm lucky that it doesn't make my wait seem hard at all. In fact, I think it makes it easier. When I was in school and working as a reporter, I thought about babies NON-STOP because I missed working with them so much. But as a nanny, I'm lucky enough to spend 40-50 hours a week with a family, really enjoying all the joys of childhood, but I get to give them back at the end of the day and have a quiet night to myself and sleep in on the weekend. And I get to take them shopping for adorable clothes without worrying about the bill. It's sort of the best of both worlds. I think it would be much, much harder if I were actually ready for a child of my own and TTC but having difficulties. But for now, Jamie and I call my charges our "practice babies" and it's the perfect way for me to get some serious parenting practice and indulge my "mothering" urge without taking full on the responsibilities of parenting.
