Are you currently trying to save money or pay off debt? If so, please join us in our buddy group!

Saving goal: Build our 8-month EF back up (see ticker) and a baby fund

How are you doing? I am afraid I won't be saving money for another few months...We have a second move to pay for, have to go to the vet for our cat's annual and shots, I need expensive orthodic shoes, etc.

When do you want to accomplish your goal? Hopefully this year so we can get started on saving for a house.

What are you doing to save money? Setting a budget, thinking about cutting TV altogether as well as my cell phone as I don't need it. Hopefully the fees to cancel won't be ridiculous!

Welcome to our group! I hope you reach your goal by December!

Well the money draining is starting to stop! We still have upcoming bills like dental, we need to buy blinds for the apartment and paint (but that is cosmetic, it's just quite bad what the previous tenant did!), expensive orthodic shoes...

DH is sellng our dining room table for $100! We don't need it as the previous tenant left his nice dining room set.

Anyway, I have to continally look at our budget. We don't have the same income at all compared to when we were in the States, but then we had to live in a tiny two-room apartment! I am still thinking and planning for working from home.

Welcome to our group! We seem to be on the same page. I also haven't bought clothes in forever, we hardly go out and since are both passionate about cooking, we prefer to eat at home.

To go back to my original post, we've decided to cut the home phone when our contract ends in June since my cell phone's contract has another two years on it and DH has a work phone now. We have only thirty cable channels and that contract ends in June as well. We've talked about cutting it out, but I want to perhaps bring it down to 15 channels.

Besides that, well DH needs more dental work, we just had eye exams and I had to buy contacts, we need to change our car's cable...We want to eventually paint and buy blinds (we hung towels for now as our cat would destroy curtains!)...

I just hope we'll get a tax return, it would help! I have cut down our budget and have been stretching out our food. We are eating more pasta, beans and less meat. I bake muffins, brown bag DH's lunches and want to learn how to bake bread! I clean with vinegar, baking soda, dish soap and towels.

We live on rice and beans! :) It's a staple meal in our house at least twice a week these days. It's cheap, it's filling, and it's actually very nutritious too. I'm always searching for new 'budget' recipes that are also healthy. I get burnt out from cooking occassionally but overall it's been very fulfilling.

Alternatives to buying cleaning products

Love rice and beans! I always make a weekly menu and grocery list as well. I'm happy to see that besides eggs, I did not shop for groceries this week and stretched everything out instead!

I really want to bake bread now, seeing how much a good whole wheat one costs...I buy our produce in ethnic stores as they are far cheaper and fresher than the supermarket produce. Besides that, I want to make Indian lentils and rice again! It's cheap and delicious. I love to make my own hummus and white bean dip, along with pita bread I toast in the oven.

I do believe as well that eating healthy is cheaper and healthier overall.

I'd love to learn to bake bread too. I buy the cheap-o wheat bread for now. :)

I love Indian food and hummus too! Yum. :) Tonight we're having vegetarian tortilla soup that I actually made on Sunday .... it's a big enough pot that for the two of us it will actually be two dinners plus extra leftovers for a few lunches.

Yes, I just decided to make one thread instead of starting one each month!

E: Your meal sounds delicious!

Still not saving here, well I am saving but for upcoming expenses, so only saving temporarily. Just hoping we get a tax return!
