Shuffling in to join the fun....

Hey everyone!

When I spent three days last week researching baby slings online, I knew I had a problem.... :D

Hi! My name is Sarah, I'm turning 26 in a couple weeks, and I officially have baby fever! My husband and I have only been married for 6 weeks, but we've been together for four years. My husband and I are both Canadians, but moved out to Seattle two years ago for his job; up until July, I was on a working visa, however that visa has now expired, and I am now only eligible to enter the country as a dependent on my husband's work visa. Which means that I now have a lot of free time on my hands to volunteer, build up my resume, and spend endless hours researching baby stuff on the computer. *eyeroll*

We originally planned for me to go off my birth control pills shortly after the wedding in July. I can't work, so I don't have a career to leave, and we can comfortably live off of just my husband's income. Seemed like the perfect time. However, I ran the Walt Disney World half marathon in January, and then got peer pressured by my running buddies in to going back in January 2010 to run "The Goofy". The Goofy is a Disney marathon weekend event where you run a half marathon on the Saturday and a full marathon on the Sunday. I also threw in the 5K on the Friday, because I'm just crazy. *rolls eyes* Anyway, clearly getting pregnant would be a bad thing this year.

So, I've only put off TTC until December/January, and I'm really having a lot of fun training, and really looking forward to Marathon Weekend, but at the same time I'm going crazy. I have BCP's until the end of November and am planning on going off them after that, but I keep thinking about stopping them sooner. I know that it normally takes your body a few months to "normalize" after stopping the pills and that statistically the changes of me getting pregnant in the first month are incredibly low.... but there would be no way that I could do The Goofy in January if I was more than a few weeks pregnant. However, I'm on the off-week for my pills right now, and I'm so tempted.... UGH!!!!

If nothing else, I guess, I'll be in great shape physically to begin TTC, and I've already had to give up caffeine (I have a high heart rate) and junk food for my training. Silver lining, right?

I need sanity and will-power! And a place to go to feed the obsession. *grin* So I'm shuffling in and joining you fabulous girls in waiting.

Sarah

Congrats on your wedding! I completely understand the compulsive baby-item researching. I've gone through bassinets, baby slings, cloth diapers, breastfeeding techniques, midwives in my area, etc. I will get completely focused on one baby topic, and start madly researching it for awhile.

Anyway, my name is Becki, I'm 23, and my DH is Paul, 25. We're thinking of TTC next summer, depending on job/financial situations and the like. It sounds like you're in a wonderful position to TTC soon! How awesome!

If you do want to stop BCP sooner, you could use condoms or charting for the next couple of months instead, perhaps. (I can also understand that being too tempting, hehe.)

How does your DH feel about TTC soon? Is he as excited as you are?

Nice to meet you!

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone! I feel like I am incredibly fortunate to be in the kind of position that the only thing standing in my way is my own hobbies! *laughs*

Megan: Thanks for the advice on running and TTC; I hadn't heard that before. That is one reason, I guess, to stay on my BCP until after the races. No point trying to normalize my cycle, if it's going to be all screwed up by the excessive training, anyway. To be honest, though, I'm not really worried. I've always been very active and have always had a very normal cycle. I've only had one late/missed period ever in my life, and that was when I was backpacking through southeastern Europe and was spending every day walking around for 14+ hours in 110 degree heat. But that's still very good to know!

It would be really tough to give up running.... I have been planning to continue running while pregnant, for as long as it is safe and comfortable. Not the same distances and intensity, obviously, but still a few miles a few times a week.

Becki: Man, internet shopping has made it too easy to fuel our obsessions, eh? My DH is definitely excited; his extended family (which is all extremely close and spends a lot of time together) has 27 kids under the age of 10 right now, so babies don't intimidate him anymore. *laughs* He does say that he feels "too young" sometimes (he turned 28 last month) but when he really thinks about it, he wouldn't want to be much older. Anyway, he has told me that I can go off my BC pills whenever I want, so it's really my own will power struggle right now. He's happy to use condoms for awhile, but I hate them, and I'm afraid that with charting I would make a mistake the first month and end up pregnant. I might do one more month of BCP and then make a decision.

Thanks again for all the responses! It's great to have people to talk to who "understand" so I'm not annoying my girlfriends! *laughs*
