Things to consider before TTC #2....

I used to be CL of this board a couple of years ago! :)

I'm Rebecca (35) and DH (29) and we have 1 DS - 17 months old. We are WTT until June 2010 for #2.

If you are WTT/TTC #2 or more (or already have 2 children or more), please advise on the issues that I need to be thinking about before TTCing #2.

A few I have already thought about:

Moving DS into a big boy bed OR buying a new crib.
Moving DS's room - his room is the best location for a nursery.

TIA!

Welcome back Anna! I adore Teddy's pics, he's one of the cutest little guys ever.

I can't say from experience of course, but I'm with you - I think a double stroller seems unnecessary.

Welcome back, Anna! I remember you! I'll let others who have kids answer your question as we're waiting for our first. Your baby is soo cute!

...may I join in? I'm a WTT Grad, have joined the WTT board in March 2008 and moved over to the WTT Grad board when it opened.

I'm sort of WTT for #2 - originally we wanted to TTC in summer this year, but now DH has second thoughts :-( so we'll most likely start talking about it again in summer, but probably won't TTC until next year.

So the WTT concerns are mostly my DH's - he wants to wait until we can move into a bigger house (currently living in a 2 bed), whereas I think a small baby doesn't need much space and would be in our bedroom to start with anyways!

I'm not too worried about a new routine or nap schedule or how to get anything done with two kids - I have a lot of friends who have had their second and said it didn't make too much of a difference!

I have a question for those who said they need to get a double stroller. Obviously this is just a theory of mine, as DS is only 10 months old and has only just started to walk. But I always thought by the time #2 is here, he'd be 2 1/2 to 3 years old and can walk on his own rather than having to be in a stroller. Do I overestimate a toddler's ability to walk longer stretches? Or is it just the convenience of being able to "control" them?

BTW I'm Anna (30) married to Matt (nearly 30) and mum to Teddy (born 22/02/09)!

Hi Rebecca! I'm not sure if you remember me or not, but I had my DS a few months after you and named him the same as your DS! I'm Lisa (31) and my DH is 44.

Before my DS was born, DH and I were dead set on only having one, as he has 3 other kids from his 1st marriage and we have joint custody of them so it's already a full house! Then DS came along and I'm so in love with that little boy and our family just doesn't feel complete. I want him to have a sibling closer to his age since the oldest half sibling is 6 years older (and the oldest is 12 years older!). So we're thinking we will TTC #2 around May/June of this year - DH isn't getting any younger (neither am I for that matter).

The things that I'm thinking about/concerned about are:

1. I work FT and DS is in daycare. It's subsidized by DH's work so it's really cheap but will I be able to handle having 2 to get ready in the morning? Also, I feel like I miss a lot of work because DS gets sick - what will happen with 2??

2. Can I handle the lack of sleep again? I'm sure I can but the thought of it makes me want to cry!

3. How do you handle nap schedules? Will I ever be able to get anything done on the weekends?? Also, how will I handle outings with 2 kids by myself when DH travels?

4. Where the heck would I put another kid?! We have a 5 BR house and each kid has his/her own room. Another baby would mean 2 of them have to share again and that won't go over well....of course its only for a few years until the oldest goes to college but still...

5. College savings - my parents are paying for DS's college but this is under the assumption that we were only having 1 - I'm not going to ask my parents to pay for kid #2 (although I'm sure they will want to) so I need to make sure we have enough saved for both kids.

For some reason this is scarier than the first time to me! Maybe because I know what I'm getting myself into?!?!

Hi Rebecca :) I remember you

I know my considerations include whether my DH will be around or not (damn Navy).

I also want to try and get my DD started on potty training.

We also need more space and are trying to move into a bigger place.
