We FINALLY have a plan! =)

Hello all! I am so excited to finally assure myself that I can officially write a post on here. I would only lurk since my DH and I could never agree to just set a date to start trying. For some reason my silly mind thought "I can't write unless we have a plan", so now we do =)

We decided on this February as a wonderful birthday present to me for baby #1! I am so ecstatic since I've been ready for about a year now. But I've given him his time with the idea and just let him realize when he was ready for the next chapter. I love him 10 times more for it.

Question: I have my annual in January where I was going to bring up how we were going to start trying & I wouldnt need the refill prescription for BCP. I was going to just get pre-natals then, but should I be getting on them sooner? Is it necessary to have prescribed pre-natals or can you just buy them at the drugstore?

Congrats on having a plan!! February is so close, it's too bad you didn't start posting earlier, since now you'll be on the preggo forums before you know it. But welcome anyway.

To be honest, I thought I would be waiting until 2010! But these 4 months are going to feel like 4 years, so I'm sure I'll be here chatting a lot :)

Hi!! Yeay for your husband and you deciding on a date. I know that has to be exciting. I'll won't be too far behind you, our date is set for the middle of April. To answer your question on PNV: I've read that it's normally good to start taking them as soon as possible. It's good to get at least three months of folic acid built up in your system, just in case you get pregnant right away. IMHO, I don't think it matters whether you have a prescription or you take over the counter. I know most doctor's will write you a script for PNV once you mention that you are planning to TTC. I take the Target brand and I've never had a problem with them and also have never heard anything bad about them. I hope that answers your question!!

Welcome and congratulations on setting your TTC date! I know I felt much more settled when DH finally settled on one, even if it was only tentative.

As for pre-natals, I asked my obgyn about this last year (actually, I'll be seeing her next week) and she said I didn't have to take a pre-natal per se because I already take lots of other vitamins (multi, cal/mag/boron, D, B12, etc.) so I think it depends on what your current vitamin regimine is. You can buy pre-natals right off the shelf at any grocery or mass-merchandiser.

As far as when to start, I think the sooner the better. I don't know what the official guideline is but I started beefing up my vitatmins
