We have to wait longer...

It looks like I'm no longer an August graduate. DH and I made a decision last night wait a couple of more months. He heard a rumor at work yesterday about layoffs. With the bad economy and stuff that's been a small concern, and there have been layoffs in the recent past. He's an engineer, and they've usually been laying off techs because they haven't wanted to get rid of engineers. Chris has been working there almost 3 years, but he's still the new guy. Since he graduated and was hired, they haven't hired any other engineers! Which means he's the low man on the totem pole and if they had to layoff engineers, he would probably be one of the first to go. There's another guy only 6 months superior, so it would be close. They usually make decisions about that kind of stuff in September, I think because of budgeting. We decided we don't want his job uneasiness to determine whether we have a baby; if we feel God wants us to have a baby (and we both feel He HAS given us this desire now), then God will provide for our needs. But, it doesn't make any sense to try just a month before we could feel more confident about it. If he does get laid off, we won't try immediately, because that would be foolish. So we'll wait until Sept or Oct to try, instead of August, assuming he keeps his job. Hopefully all of this is just rumors--those kind of things are like wildfire, you know? And even if there were layoffs, maybe they would take more than seniority into consideration. Maybe they would cut higher salaries to get more bang for the buck, or consider that he is a really good engineer--a genious in my opinion! (I'm partial I think...) :-)

So here I am, signing off with a different date-

(((Nicki))) First, of course, I'm hoping that DH keeps his job! But I'm also glad that you don't have to wait months to find out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out perfectly!

This economy!!! I've just read 2 other posts that deal with finances/economy. My DH is an engineer as well and works for a huge auto company that has fallen on hard times. His job has been up and down, but we think it's finally stable for a little while. They have cut pretty much all of his benefits though.

Hopefully your DH will make the cutoff or they won't do layoffs.
