What Does it Mean to "Not Try"?

I've heard a lot of people say lately that they have/are not necessarily trying, but not trying to prevent a pregnancy. What does that mean?!?!

I know my cycles, as they are regular, so I know when I ovulate. If you BD when you O, isn't that trying?

I thought about this as an approach to my DH, to just stop using condoms after this pack runs out, and see what happens. But, to me, that is still "trying". I'm confused. To date, we have talked about setting a date to "start trying". I'm thinking that's a lot of pressure on both of us. He has to make an "announcement" of when to officially begin. I just think if we take a "whatever happens" approach, it may ease the anxiety. Of course, getting him on board is another story . . . :-)

Sorry for the rambling, and all of the quotations. ;-)
