My stepdaughter and her husband had a baby two years ago with serious brain issues. He lived for 20 minutes. I had the blessing of being with them through the labor and birth. I got to hold my grandson before he passed away and after he passed away. I am so grateful that I could be there for them and that I had that time with my grandson. His short life was nothing but love.

My prayers are with your grandson and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss.

The hospital went through the bereavement process with us, and I'm torn as to whether I would want to hold him or not. I just don't think I could.

Thank you for your prayers!

Hi Pam, congratulations on becoming a grandmother!

I'm so sorry that Killian is having problems, sending lots of P&PTs his way. I'm glad that you are at a great hospital getting the best care. Please keep us posted on his progress.

If anyone would like to follow his progress....we created a facebbok community page where I update constantly, and upload pictures.

You can google his name, and it'll show his page. His name is Killian Kayne Brocius.

Congratulations on becoming a Grandma! It is the world's best feeling. I'm so sorry Killian has to fight so hard to stay with you. I haven't dealt with the situation that you & your family are going through but my only grandchild, Noah, was born 10 wks early. It was a battle from the start. No one but Dad was allowed in the delivery room & my DD hadn't even started her prenatal classes yet. I had 5 mins with her to quickly take her through the breathing 30 mins before she delivered. Noah fought so hard to stay & we almost lost him a few times in the first wks. After 5 wks in the NICU, he came home. The first year was a bit of a challenge as he would just stop breathing when he was sleeping. Thankfully, he was on a monitor that would go off and 95% of the time that noise would wake him up & he would start to breath automatically. Downsize was that there were times when the monitor went off for no reason but everyone woke up. Noah will be 5 in April. He is a happy & smart little boy but he does have mobility problems as a result of the lack of oxygen experienced after his birth. Every minute I spend with him reminds me that he is an amazing gift.

Being a grandparent of an ill grandchild is extremely difficult & as you said we have double worry. The times I held my daughter as she cried in fear or exhaustion are imprinted on my brain forever. The total hopelessness I felt because I couldn't make it better for my child is a feeling I never wanted to go through again but you do as life always offers joy & sadness. Noah was still in NICU when at 4 wks I got to hold him for the 1st time. The NICU rules were only parents could hold the babies. One quiet afternoon after Sandy changed him, she turned to me & put him in my arms. I can't describe my feeling but I stood there with tears pouring down my face as I held this tiny precious child of my child. One of the nurses spotted us & Sandy was sure we were going to get into trouble but no, as always they showed the compassion that those special people in NICU have. The nurse stood behind me rubbing my back telling me my tears were normal for a grandma of a special child.

My prayers & positive thoughts are going out to you and your family.

Dee
