Do they live nearby so you are able to spend time with them?  If they aren't near, do you talk with them on the phone, facetime, etc. to keep the relationship going?

Unfortunately I'm not as close distance wise as I would like to be. We are about 2 1/2 hrs away. I try to go visit for a day or two every 2 wks & in between we Skype or do facetime. DD is good to keep me supplied with pictures & updates especially on the baby who changes so quickly. In the past, DH babysat our grandson until he was in JK & so there is a strong bond between the 2 of them. He still comes to us during his school holidays. I stayed with DD during those first few wks with the new baby & we bonded. She has been known to reach for me instead of Mommy at times, lol. We make an effort to be at all of our grandson's special events & will do the same for our granddaughter's. DD, the kids, DH & I are driving to Florida the end of the mth for 10 days & this will also allow us quality time with the kids. I'm a strong believer in quality vs quantity as happy memories are cherish more. Dee

I am lucky that I get to see my grandchild every day.  Altho, some days, now that we are in the terrible 2's, it don't feel so lucky!  Dee, I totally agree that happy memories are cherished more than dozens of visits that feel awkward, forced, or all run together.

Dee, I'm posting this gift idea here, rather than the other board, since you are the only one with infant grandchildren.  In between all my funerals over last weekend, the girls and I went to a baby fair, and i found these WONDERFUL books.  They are board books, and are very sturdy, as well as being delightfully offbeat.  Don't know if you've heard of them, but I thought you might be interested...

And then there's this one, which Rae (my artist) bought, and is going to illustrate for me for a Xmas present.  I don't know if your grandson like to draw at all, but there are other titles in the lineup, and he might like to personalize one of them.
