I'm sorry Dee that you've had such an experience.
She gets to finish her test tomorrow after school in the office. Whats the point of having a 504 plan saying you can have extra time if no one pays attention to it. Besides its against the law to not follow a 504 plan & almost the same as having an IEP. Niks all bent out of shape about it all thinking she's going to be in trouble. She has no idea how much trouble the school will be in if they don't allow her the time to finish it. How or why would you tell a kid its a federal thing & the school could be in big crap for not following it.
Perhaps your loud voice made a difference Dee....has she re-taken the test yet?
Nik got to finish her test in detention w/the VP, unfortunately she said it was very loud in there so we've got our fingers crossed that she did well. She knew the material in & out. Dh talked w/the P & she wants to involve special ed & go for an IEP in math. If the teacher isn't going to comply it won't do any good but w/the P suggesting it the teacher might watch what she does more. At that meeting w/the whole special ed team present dh fully intends to tell them & this teacher exactly how he feels about her grading & teaching methods. You should read FB the kids are beginning to talk about her on it & boy she is one hated teacher.
Mrs. S being the teachers union president doesn't help because every teacher in there is afraid of her, she has all the power if they need the union for anything, kwim? I'm not letting her get away being being nasty to Nik & not answering questions Nik may have & yelling. I'll keep going to the P every day if I have to.
This is a teacher that sounds like she is a bully not a strict teacher that cares. I don't mean she is just go by the rules kind of teacher but from the things you are saying she even is bulling other teachers.
YDD has said that many kids don't like some teachers but she loves them. These are the teachers that try and run a quiet class and have the kids follow the rules. These are teachers that go our of their way to halp any kid that askes for help and will take time to work with the kids after class or before school. I had some or YDD's teachers ask what they could do to help her last yr when she got sick. No 504 in place.
Over the yrs we have delt with the 504 and IEP for ODD. The teachers that care were very willing to ask questions and wanted to know what things we knew worked for ODD. We even had teacher asking us questions before we had either of these in place for her. Now I do remember
She said it was noisy at first & I know Niks mind goes blank when its noisy & she has to think, especially for math. She was out in about 10-15 minutes, she knew all the stuff but I wonder & I'm afraid that she may have rushed because she was the only girl among the worst boys in her grade who were there for detention. It may be a month before we know what she got.
The VP had detention duty so instead of leaving her in the office in a quiet room to do it he took her to detention to have her do it. The man has no brains I've been told by everyone now I know for sure. She had 4 problems to finish & according to dh & her tutor she knew them perfectly so it will be interesting to see how much the noise bothered her. Also before she can stay after school for help she has to ask that day & then try to call me to tell me to pick her up. Other kids just walk in. I think the teacher has a problem w/Nik because she's come right out & said she should have repeated 6th grade when dh was sick & not gone on to 7th. That wasn't her call to make it was Maines & they said she was fine to go into 7th. Since Nik was doing ok in the school near my dads before we moved into this house I don't think her opinion means anything or is wanted. Just teach.
The kids are all really pissed she didn't get picked for jury duty & was back today. I wonder what they will say on FB about it. Should be fun to read.
She has a problem with
Niks math problems started in FL when she was in elemntary school. That school skipped large sections of ther math book & only taught what what going to be on the FCAT. I knew it would hurt dd one day. In Maine she had a great math teachers who allowed her to use a calculator as long as she showed all her work (steps) to get to the final answer. She had A'as & B's in math up there.
