Always heard that phrase "Takes the whole village to raise a child".

Welcome Jenny? Is that your name? None of us were looking to fill our homes w/kids again. I do believe that for at least us here on this board we could have gone very blissfully into empty nesthood w/out a look back. I know I was enjoying it immensely. Unfortunately I for one & the reat of the ladies here couldn't let the state take over the care of our kids. Foster homes were not an option here.

For me I adopted my dd who is my dh's dgd. Adoption was the only way to keep her safe & cared for from 2 alcoholics & drug users who btw were quite eager to allow this. it got them off the hook so to speak.

Being on a fixed income & raising a child is not easy. Since we adopted we got nothing from the state which I now know was our lawyers fault. I think if you file for legal guardianship she may be eligeble for help. I'm sure some of the ladies here can point you in the right direction.

Hi Jenny, I live in Mo and to get any kind of state aide for DGS we had to have a notarized paper that our DD had given us guardianship. We did go through the courts and used legal aide to do so. We did this a yr ago. Now I do have to say for us things were a bit different as DD was living in the house with us until shortly after we did this. I was the first one to hold DGS and he had lived with us from birth.
