Socks, socks, and more socks!

I feel like our house is getting overrun with single socks.  I've tried asking the kids to fold their socks together when they put them in the hamper, but that doesn't work (probably because they don't use the hamper until I ask for the laundry).  I bought those plastic sock pair things to keep socks together, but nobody uses them.  Even if they did get used, the socks go through the dryer with the ring around them, so they wind up misshapen afterwards.

How do you manage to keep your pairs together?

I've never tried to keep them together before, so I'm interested in what the others might have to say.  We have a small tote bag full of mismatched socks.  Every other month or so, I'll go through the tote bag and I can usually match most of what's in there.

We use those mesh bags (meant for underwear and delicates) for each kid, just pop them in the washer and dryer still in the bags.. That and we try to limit the amount of colored/character socks we buy...

I'm a pretty systematic person, so we have a family "sock system." lol. Each kid has many pairs of two different kinds of socks, all seperate from eachother. (this is aside from special socks for sports and things). For example, Carys has light blue socks, and then white socks with purple on the toes. I don't know how many pairs of each she has, but it's quite a lot. She has a sock basket in her closet, and she'll be able to pull out two socks of the same color and put them on. That way, it isn't a big deal to lose one sock, or if one gets a whole in it we can throw it away and she can still wear the other one. Each kid has their own two styles. I don't know if our system would work for everyone, but it certainly works for us. :)

Mom of 6 and loving every minute of it!
