I know pretty much all TOK families make use of hand me downs.

First of all, can I say I wish I had an adult to give me hand-me-downs? I used to get my grandmother's but she doesn't drive so she really doesn't shop much any more. I don't have time to shop for myself.lol

Ok, on to the real topic. I ran into a similar problem with Megan and Hannah. Megan (the older one) loves horses and the color green. So I'd buy her lots of green and anything with horses on it. Hannah likes purple or pink and isn't into horses the way Megan is. So now when I buy Megan clothes, I try to keep in mind that Hannah will wear them too. SO I don't buy all green and lots or horse themed shirts.

Another thing I do is I hit the sales in Feb and August when everything is on clearance for the next year. That way everyone gets some new things that are specifically to their tastes and they can't complain about the 75% of their clothes that were an older sibling's.

Did you ever read "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "Bells on their Toes?" I love those books. There is a chapter where the mom takes the boys for new suits. The boys are paired up the older sibling with the next son down, and both boys get to pick the older son's suit b/c the younger one will wear it. It is one of my favorite chapters ever. It is a great idea and it cracks me up every time. Maybe take Nick and Joshua together when you buy new things and have them pick things they both like?

I love that idea of having them pick things out together!

I wish there was an easy solution for when the hand me down-er and hand me down-ee are different body types! My younger nephew couldn't use any of my son's hand me downs because his shoulders were much broader than Ian's. Now my daughter has a similar problem, we can't accept alot of hand me downs that are offered because they are cut wrong for her :(

That's not really an issue for me now, as the boys are 4 and 1 (and the 1-year-old doesn't much care) but these are definitely good ideas to keep in mind for a few years from now!
