We tried the liquid over the summer, and I did not like it.

I made a liquid soap -- more of a gel, actually, since I didn't have a bucket big enough and so used half the water -- and I preferred it to the powdered.

I've been using powdered right now but was thinking of trying a liquid. DH isn't too excited about the homemade soap idea and he does his own wash so I was thinking the liquid might get him onboard. Now I'm hesitant, I like the powdered.

I've found I'm doing A LOT more stain treating now that I'm using the homemade detergent. I have to put two scoops of OxiClean into each load that contains kids clothes. I really have to wonder if I'm actually saving a ton of money doing it this way.

I make the powdered version and it appears to be working just fine. I do not like the way it smells at all though, so I use fabric softener, but I'm still saving a ton on the soap.

I tried a different recipe for the liquid. It seems to be working OK this time. A friend of mine told me she makes the liquid, but mixes it 50/50 with commercial detergent so it cleans a bit better and she still saves money. I'd never thought to try that before, but I think I'm going to do a 50/50 mix and see how that pans out.

What kind of bar soap did you use for the powder?
