train table - keep or pass on?

Hi, all of you smart, organized mamas!

My latest question for all of you is our train table (for wooden "Brio" traintracks). We bought the "Target" version 5 years ago for Christmas for DS #2. We thought the kids would love it, since whenever they see train tables in bookstores, toy stores, etc. they are such a hit. It has seen so little use! They prefer to build trains on the floor. The table takes up a lot of room. I hesitate to get rid of it, though, since we still have an almost-3 yr.-old (who, admittedly, doesn't play with it) and an infant.

Anyone out there ever have one and get rid of it before your kids had outgrown it?

We still have the one we bought 11 years ago, as a gift from Megan to Jared when she was born. It has gotten a lot of use, from cars, trains, fisher price little people village, dinosaur land, art table (had to repaint it after that stint), and table for our Christmas tree (with a sheet thrown over it).

That said, I have extra room to store it when it isn't in use. Over the years there have been times no one used it and it went in the storage closet. If I hadn't had the room to store it, I'd have gotten rid of it.

If you don't use it, have no place to store it, then get rid of it. I have a policy that space is more important with TOK than stuff. The only thing that saved our train table is there is always something else we can use it for other than trains.

If you keep it, maybe paint the top with chalk board paint and let the kids draw their own roads and scenes on it. Or use white board paint. That'd be fun too

Hugs,

I'd say if they don't really use it and prefer to build on the floor, then go ahead and pass it on.
