So, I probably should have come looking for a board like this a long time ago. I am so fed up with some of the comments I get, sometimes it's all I can do to keep my mouth shut.

Anyway, I have a DD, she is almost 10 and she's a great kid (most of the time)...lol. Having 1 was never my plan, but things happen in life. I went through a sort of greiving that I would only have 1 child, and of course went through the guilt, especially when she would tell me how much she wanted a little sister.

I am also a single mom and I work full time. The people I work with all have more than one kid and some of them have 4 kids. Now, I didn't tell them to have 4 kids, and they didnt tell me to only have 1, but the judgements I have gotten are unreal.

I think she has gotten used to it. She used to say a lot that she wanted a little sister, but hardly at all anymore. Plus, she has never seemed to mind playing by herself (playing in her room or reading a book). Of course sometimes she gets a bit clingy, but I think that's more a kid thing than an only thing. The imagination she has developed amazes even me sometimes.

I will say from what I have read and just my own experience you will find your child pulls ahead of her classmates. I guess cause they get your undivided attn. It is pretty cool.

That's one of the things that family has taken on. The whole "she's going to want a brother or sister" nonsense. So far, she's only mentioned it once. It was when she was playing with a baby doll and said, "Mom, we should get a baby," but she hasn't brought it up again. I think it was just play-related. She does have a great imagination too, and I love it! I hope it continues to grow.
