Hi! I'm another wandering over from the TTC After Miscarriage board (along with Michelle and njjiants). We've tried unsuccessfully to have an on-earth #2 baby for 3 years. We just made the decision last week to stop actively trying and we're going to see how things go with just enjoying being a family of 3. We HAVE discussed the idea of adoption, but the only kind of adoption we'd be able to do right now is Foster-to-Adopt and I'm not entirely sold on that idea yet. So, in the meantime, I hope I can join you here with my little family of 3. :)

Hi Tee,

Welcome to the board! It's so good to see some action on this board and meet new people! I'm Sharon (37) with ds who is turning 7 too soon.

I understand your struggle to want baby number two and not be able to have one and your efforts to try to make peace being a family of three. I've been there myself. That said, I continue to find the joys of having one child - and there are many. From spending more time together, to the closeness as family, to just being able to give your full heart and attention to one amazing child - the list goes on and on.

I look forward to chatting with you!

Sharon

Hi Amy and Sharon! Thanks for the kind words and positive thoughts! I'm 33, my DH is 34 and our DD is 8 and kinda, sorta in 2nd grade (peer age-group wise). We homeschool and are all over the place with grade levels. We have 2nd grade for Math, 3rd grade for some other subjects, and we throw some other stuff in there that is who-knows-what-grade/age-level. LOL!

My DD is super duper creative and can make anything out of whatever is in our recycling bin. I swear, she could create a scale model of the Eiffel Tower out of dryer lint, if given enough time. LOL! It doesn't do any good that we have a doll house already made - the kid makes doll houses out of taped-together scrap paper and is much happier playing with that! LOL!

I'm really, really trying to focus more on my DD and all the awesome things she does, says, and is. After 3 years of preoccupation with TTC and kind of putting her somewhat on the back burner (while still keeping her involved in SO much - and being involved in so many aspects of her life - I'm not even sure how that happens, but somehow despite all that we do with her, she still has been somewhat on that back burner), I'm really trying to take every moment with her and soak it all up. I feel like I lost pieces of the last 3 years of her life and I don't want to do that anymore.

I'm hoping to get back to the closeness of "just the three of us" again. Maybe someday we will be blessed with some sort of addition to our family, but right now, that doesn't seem to be in the grand plan, so I think instead of obsessing over things, I need to just roll with life and enjoy every single moment.

I know it was mentioned that several from this group are on a Facebook group, but I just deactivated my FB account for the time being. It's part of my healing. I need to take the time to focus on my family and in addition to TTC, Facebook has become another way my focus has been taken off of my family. For some reason, I can step away from iVillage when I've finished posting and be ok with it, but it hasn't been the same with Facebook (perhaps because it always seems like people are updating SOMETHING). LOL!

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. :)

That sounds like my son when he was younger.

Hi, Tee. My mother called me Tinkerbell as a child. At some point, it became embarrassing to me so I asked her to stop. She ended up calling me T instead. She still does and I still answer to it-lol.

I'm Sunni and my DD, Olivia, is 5. I've been married for almost 11 years. I've been all over the board with wanting a big family, not wanting kids, not able to concieve and wanting to adopt and finally a blessing pregnancy at the worst possible time.

I love being a family of 3. I like to think of it as more ecologically responsible. This planet really can't support an ever growing population, If our finances were different, I think I'd consider adoption but I would never want to redo the baby years. Who knows what I'd really do if the chance came up!

I work fulltime and just went this week to enroll Olivia in kinder. i don't know where the years have gone. :( Just not ready to have a big girl.

Hi Moss...thanks for the welcome. I really am trying to think of her as a part of our family of three. In fact, I often refer to us as "our little family". :)

I definitely am trying to relax and enjoy my family as-is. Some days it's tough. Other days it's easy - but I guess that's the case no matter whether you have one child or a whole house full!

Ha ha ha!!! Yes. The tape. I bought her her own rolls of tape at one point. I caught her in my drawer digging out MY tape one day. I asked her what she was doing and she said, "Well, I couldn't find any of my rolls of tape, so I'm using yours." I said, "Uhhh...I don't think so! Go find YOUR tape!" LOL! Same with scissors. The kid has about 6 pair around our house --- somewhere! She's constantly asking if she can use my scissors because she can't find hers. LOL! She's got great ideas, but I'm sure glad that head is attached - she'd lose it, along with all those great ideas! :)

Thanks for the welcome, Sunni! Tee is a nickname I use here on iVillage (privacy reasons), but I have some good friends who call me Tee (or T - I just figured that it would be weird to have people calling me by a letter).

I would consider adoption if we could figure out the finances for something like that. I would love to do the baby years again. LOL! I love all those milestones.

But, you're right, there are SO many children of all ages from newborn through teenagers who already need homes. So, maybe one day, we will add to our family through adoption. But, perhaps when my DD gets older, I'll feel differently about bringing in an older child who needs some love.

For now, I'm just trying to adjust to our "new normal" of most likely not adding to our family at this point.

Enrolling in Kindergarten is a tough thing. My DD went to kindergarten in our local public school and all those things leading up to the first day of school were so emotional. The parent meeting, the K screening, the tour of the school, meeting the teacher. Such bittersweet moments.
