Not a direct factor, but realistically it definitely made a difference. DS's college education will cost almost what you listed as the raising cost (one year down, 3 to go - we hope!), so there'd be no way we could've done that for more than one!

It wasn't a reason to have only one child but it means we have more choices available as money only has to cover one child,

I did find the calculator on the link a bit misleading. Why is there a cost for DD's home when she shares it with us? Ok, food and clothing are a direct cost.
