Whoa, that was the wrong thing to say to the wrong person! I gasped just picturing the look on your face, LOL.
I think it's often just something people say without really even thinking about it too deeply. Sounds like she might have a bit of "foot in mouth" syndrome since she complained about the degree issue and you happen to have a degree!
I agree with Amy - it sounds like this woman just doesn't think before she speaks. She sure picked the wrong person to say it too though, of course you're going to stick up for your family.
I think I get just as many 'comments' these days but they bother me less as I am content with our family. I used to worry about what Mitchell would miss out on when people made comments but not any more. One which irritated me A LOT lately though was on facebook. Someone had posted a cute picture of their 2 kids and another friends commented that nothing is more special than a sibling relationship. That made me cranky :)
