You know the answer before you ask the question.

How was school today? Fine.
What did you do? Nothing.

What do you say to get the dialogue going and bring your child out of his shell?

So far Paige will talk about school but she's only going into the 2nd grade. :0) She's always been a talker so it hasn't been much of a problem. I try to ask pointed questions like what did you do for Math or Reading, otherwise I'll get mostly social answers to my questions. I also ask if the teacher had to yell at any of them or if she got her name on the board for talking too much! lol

We're buying school supplies today, she's excited and so am I.

Keenan is only at Moms' Day Out but I try to ask him about his day. I ask "yes/no" questions and he'll answer, but whether that answer is correct is always questionable! "Did you share the train toys today?" "Yep." (Uh-huh. SURE you did.)

Ask specific questions.

oh yes, Paige loves to tell about other kids getting in trouble but not about herself. lol She does tell on herself still so it's sad and funny at the same time.

She's super excited and already has her supplies for school. I need to get her reading more and doing a bit of math before hand to get her back into the swing of things!

When Victoria first started school, I always asked her to tell me one good thing that happened and one bad/not so good thing that happened.

I love the idea of asking about one good thing and one not-so-good thing that happened.
