8yr old B.O. (m)

Hi, My name is Heidi, I'm coming out of lurk mode for a quick question. (just noticed my CL hat, my appologies! Multitasking today!)

My 8yr old DD seems to have body odor. By the time she gets home from school she smells like she's been in a greasy cafe! She bathes/showers daily and has recently gone from washing her hair every other day to every day since I've noticed this change.

Is this probably B.O. that I'm noticing? She hasn't said anything to me about it or if other kids have said anything. I haven't asked her yet not wanting to offend her, I want to be sensitive. Is it time for deoderant, or something different? I'm not sure about the other kids in her grade, if they are to this 'milestone' or not.

Any help/advice?

Heidi - lurker, but maybe not so much in the near future. This one is going to be a handful soon like my toddler and newborn.

2nd appologies for CL hat! :)

Hi Heidi,

I have a DS who just turned 8 yrs old yesterday. I've been through the same thing with Abran. I keep him bathed as well, but finally had to start putting deodorant on him. He's been wearing it since before he started school this year.

I have older kids (22,20,& 18) but I don't remember having to make them wear (deordorant)when they were in first grade.

Maybe you should ask the doctor if it's normal for some kids to have to start wearing deordorant at a young age.

For some reason, it didn't occur to me to ask a doctor about my DS, as I figured he runs around all the time, so he's bound to be a bit smelly, even if I do give him a bath in the morning, by lunch time he's due for another.

Good Luck.

New here. :D

My son is 8 years old & I have noticed he has a stronger odor now. Strong enough for deodorant, I don't know but he seems to prefer having his own deodorant how. Blew my mind away when I caught him using dad's. :D

Hey, long time non-visitor to this board, and just wanted to say that my 9 yo started with the BO about a year ago. Puberty seems to start earlier than it used to, and we are looking at getting a bra in the much-too-near future.

Just for the record - I am NOT ready for this puberty thing yet!!

My 8 yr old son started having BO at the age of 4 (It was an unfortunate family trait) Anyways, The doctor suggested a prescription deodorant and he has been using it for years. Bye Bye BO
