Mom friends, I'd like some suggestions for a birthday gift for Ian, he will be 9 in June.

If he likes to construct and build things, you might try something like a big Lego, Knex or Magnetix set. (Or a couple of those.)

What about something for him to do - like Blockbuster card to rent movies of his choice, movie card to go to the movie of his choice, a gift certificate for a class he wants to take (cooking, spots, art, music). What about a season pass to the waterpark, local pool, zoo, museum - whatever he is interested in.

No help on boy toys as I have two 9 year old girls :o)

Legos, board games (life, monopoly, apples to apples), gc to the toy store. My kids love this because they get to go and pick something out on their own. They both like to save them and use them over the summer. They find it fun to say that they are buying something and mom and dad can't use the "we have no money for that right now" excuse. Philip also likes getting gc to the book store.
