Well, my son's field trip today is nearly over (I have to get him in a couple minutes) but it made me think og the coolest field trip you as a kid or your child has ever had?

I remember as a kid going to Plymouth Plantation A LOT....but I did love it there.

Our school district seems to be going all out for field trips lately.

Sounds like the older they get the cooler the trips!

My daughter seems to go on the same two or three field trips every year -- in fact, she's on one of them again this morning. Luckily she's also in Girl Scouts, so she does get to go camping and do other activities through that.

As a kid, the coolest field trip I went on was probably an overnight one in seventh grade where we worked as the crew of a replica tall ship. A close runner-up was the following year, when we went to Yosemite for five days. I also enjoyed the Bronx Zoo trip I took as a second-grader in New Jersey.

Every year there is a special field trip at the end of the year for just that grade that is special:

K - Trip to the zoo, fun activities at the zoo, hands on stuff

1st - Walked to the park down the street, made their own bubbles, chalk, ice cream party

2nd - teacher lives on private pond - walk there and fish, play in the sand, scavenger hunt, picnic (AWESOME!)

3rd- bus ride around town visitng historical sites, stop at a park for picnic kunch & playtime, tour of local museum, stop at local candy store, and then scavenger hunt downtown finding various sites/facts about it (this was a ton of fun)

4th - they will be taking a bus ride to our state capital to tour the Capital building and areas around it (I have never been there - hoping I can chaparone!)

5th - not sure?

6th - 2 night camp during the school week

In 3rd grade they went to a play downtown using city transportation. They saw the Nutcracker but I think the fact they were on city transportation was the bigger hit. Then in the spring they went to the tidepools. The play was donated tickets/matinee the production company does every year for local schools who write to them for tickets. The city donates "class passes" for public transportation. You have to write in and request it.

In 4th grade we've been to San Juan Bautista already. In March they are going to Sacramento. There is the possibility of another field trip in there but I can't remember what it is even. SJB was free to the students as the home and school club paid for it. Sacramento will be about $60. They use those fancy coaches and it pays for the tour, lunch as well.

In 5th grade the big trip is a week away at Science Camp. That will be about $400+, less any fund raising.

We live in North Alabama...

As a kid the coolest field trips I ever went on was when I was in the 4th grade and we rode Amtrak from Anniston AL to Washington DC and spent 4 days in DC seeing all the sites.
