WHEW. thanks for the advice. I sent her a text and she said the same thing....she didn't expect us to stay. She was even willing to come pick her up and drop her off. Of course I dropped her off and will go back to get her. And I just checked in on her and she is having a ball. (party didn't really start until 3:30pm so she had time to just hand around which she loved).
I will have to remember that from now on...I guess the older they get the easier it is to drop them off provided it is ok with the hostess and I am comfortable enough with the parents.
I'm glad you were able to drop her off, and that she's having a good time :). I always see what my comfort level is with the parents on whether I stay or not. She is getting to an easier age to leave at a party, its nice when they get older! Since the party was last minute, I doubt she had tons of kids over anyways.
Good question since this seems to be one of those "middle ground" kind of ages. Up to around age 6 or so, I always assumed I would need to stay but with my oldest who is 12, he would be royally irked if I stayed, LOL.
I think you made the right decision by texting the mom just to make sure it was okay to leave. I always try to tell the parents when they are dropping off their kids that it's okay if they want to leave and run a few errands while the party is going on.
For what it is worth (my kids are older) but by the time they were nine I had no expectation that parents would stay for a birthday party.
