I just ran across a very interesting article from the NY Times, the author is talking about how puberty beginning before the age of 10 in girls is becoming the new normal.

Wow! I had no idea that it was becoming the "norm" either! None of my DD's friends (or my DD) have shown any signs of puberty that I know of. And they tend to tell me EVERYTHING, lol.

Ugh, I feel SO unprepared for this! I thought I had at least a couple more years of denial!

LOL, it's rather shocking, isn't it? One of my twins started getting really bad body odor around the age of 4, but hasn't had any other signs until about 9. I've talked about it with his pediatrician, and they haven't been concerned since he's been growing at an average rate.

As mom to an almost-8-year-old this scares me! And probably more because *I* am not ready for it. LOL

My DD was not born in this country and didn't grow up eating meat fed antibiotics and given hormones, drinking milk with the same hormones or eating lots of processed foods. I hope, for both our sake, that she will be immune to early puberty because of this. Obviously there are other factors, as the article indicates, but maybe we'll be safe from the environmental ones. {fingers crossed!}

I hope that she won't have to go through this either, I couldn't imagine having to deal with my period at these young ages.
