Ok, I lurk here maybe once or twice very few months, and long story (dont want to get into it) I dint have contact with my son short of sending him a monthly e-mail, and presents for birthdays and holidays.....
Here is the problem, I have no idea what to get him for his big 1-0. His birthday is at the end of the month, and he has not responded back to e-mails and his father will not let me speak to him....... Does anybody have any idea what to get a nine year old turning ten? I would like to keep his present between $20-$40.

Please dont judge me by this e-mail, as you dont know the whole story, and I dont like dragging out all the painful memories of what the ex and my mother have done to me....... I try to be a mom to him as much as I can be.

I don't have good gift ideas, since my DD is only 10 months, but I did want to say thanks for posting and reassure you that we are not here to judge - everyone has their own story. I think it is wonderful that you are wanting to find him a great gift. I'm sure other moms will be along soon with their excellent ideas!

My daughter just got a handheld electronic game called "20 questions" and we are all in love with it. It's only about $10. That thing is cool!!! Boys that age also like those things called "pin ups". They are plastic square things with hundreds of plastic "pins" in them. You put something up against it like your hand or face and it leaves the imprint in it. Amazon.com had the Eyeclops on sale for $19.99 (great price. They are about $40 in the stores on sale) It's a microscope but it hooks into your TV to see the images. It's pretty darn cool. HTH, some. These are petty general ideas that most boys that age really like.

Most of the 9 and 10 year olds I know like getting the Lego kits -- Star Wars, Agents and those alien looking ones are big hits. Various science kits especially the "grosser" ones. Board games like Apples to Apples, Sequence, or Monopoly. A skateboard.
