Philip's school has a science fair every year. The fourth and fifth graders have to participate. It is tonight, projects were due at the school this morning at 8am. His experiment is "Does the type of container effect the speed at which ice melts?"
K through 3rd grade has the opportunity to participate in one at the end of March. It is completely voluntary for the kinders, first and second graders. Third graders are strongly encouraged to do one. The third grade teachers take time out of the class to go over the science fair packets, to help the kids come up with appropriate ideas and will even go over the display set up and presentation with them.
Yesterday we got the paper home for the lower grades to sign up. Lindsay was so excited to participate that she insisted that she do an experiement like her brother rather than a model (I was hoping she would do a model, lol) and got us to fill out the form so she could turn it in today. I'm turning her over to dh to help figure out and do the project.
Nope, there is no science fair for elementary students in our district.
