Have you talked to his teacher yet? Maybe she or he would have some ideas of how to help your son gain back his confidence. Teachers often see a side of our kids that we don't. Whether it is being more polite and considerate than what they are at home or if they withdrawal and hardly talk at school while they won't shut up at home. She or he could also be able to suggest someone that would be a good fit for your son as a friend or even someone he should stay away from.

Ask the teacher who might be a good fit and have them over for a one on one playdate. have a few activites planned incase there is a gap in play.

Also what about joining boy scouts or something like that where he is in a social setting with activities that all the boys like? Or sports, art classes, etc...

Explain that making friends takes initative from him and give him some pointers about asking kids to play at recess or sit by him at lunch...

Good luck!

hello!! i would maybe see about contacting the schools social worker. they migt be able to get to the bottom of your sons problems. my dd started a new school this year and she did really well. at her school, the social worker took a group of the new students and gave them a tour of the school. he talked to them together as a group to see how they were doing/adjusting. but last year my dd had a few problems dealing wit a bunch of changes that were goign on. she had a few sessions with the social worker and they really helped. im sure its just a period of adjustment-and he'll come through...he just needs a lil help.
