speaking of yelling at kids....

So my parenting was tested on Tuesday. DS has a palatal expander; he has had it since July, well he had a bigger one and then a smaller one was put in in Novemember and we have to go every month to have it check. He had a cleft lip and palate at birth and it also went through his gum so he is having surgery in April to correct and this expander is all part of the prep. So we had been doing great and I was hopeful Tuesday orthodonist would say no need to see you until after surgery...oh that was my fatal flaw

Now keep in mind also we can't just go to any dentist, we have to see one that works with his cleft team at the big city children's hospital and usually that means no school but this one was at 2 so I said great half a day so he doesn't have to miss another day since he will be out for 2 weeks...second fatal flaw...so we get there they call him in and I am waiting in hall and its under 5 min and they call me and think wow quick for all that driving and traffic but whatever. "mom where is the appliance" me "in his mouth?" orthodontis "...open mouth" me "where is it" DS "it fell out last night its in my room I forgot"

My eyes must have said it all and orthodonist was like its ok mom but you have to come back tomorrow. OK is that steam coming from my ears. So now I have that don't know if I should scream, laugh or cry but hold it together and thank God for little brothers because my youngest and dad were in the lobby and little one lets out an "off like a dirty shirt" when he learns we are leaving at which point it was just laughter but get home and ask DS and I get "i didn't want to tell you tought you would be made" REALLY maddier then driving ALL the way to the hospital to find out its not in your mouth then feeling like a fool for not knowing when orthodonist asked?!?!? oh and having to take more time off of work and you missing ANOTHER day of school. But very proud of myself stayed calm and cool even the next day when I found out the appliance was broke and we need a new one in 2 weeks...

OMG, totally impressed that you managed to keep it together!  I would have been so irate and steamed at the circumstances, so good job!
