Two things that have helped us with the smell is to wash the socks in the hottest water possible and using baking soda while putting in on the soak cycle. Good luck!
Yes, I've noticed this too. Fortunately (or unfortunately, lol) I end up buying new socks quite often b/c both my boys are constantly getting holes in their socks. I swear, I don't know what they do to them to make them wear down so quickly!!
