About to lose my mind with homework battles

How can two kids be so different?!? I've never had a problem with my youngest doing homework- she literally comes in and does it right away. My oldest....argh. I feel like I'm constantly having to keep on her, checking the teacher's websites to make sure she's telling me the truth about what she really has or doesn't have homework. If I hear the excuse "we finished it in class" one more time, I'm gonna scream. It's mentally exhausting trying to keep up with each class of hers. I've already been through school and college and I have no desire to go back through all this again. Why can't she just care enough about her grades to at least halfway keep up with this stuff herself? That's the root of the problem, I think. She just doesn't care and I don't know how to make her care.

oh I was so not a homework person as a kid it seemed so repetative and didn't help I had easy to get out of it teachers. Had a few come high school who wouldn't let me slide but it wasnt until college that I realized where I could of gone had I only cared more when I was younger. Think its lesson she is going to have to learn the hard way and just stay on top of her. If you let her get away with it it becomes a habit but eventually you can hope if she realizes you don't fall for her stories its not worth the lies.

As for the I have been through school and college. OMG somedays I think holy crap what have I gotten myself into. My oldest is only in 4th grade but we have so much ahead to muddle through. I had an oppertunity to go back to school through work and aside from the money my other thought was I don't have it in me anymore for papers and projects let alone 2 hour classes after 8 hours of work and then I remembered I got 2 boys to deal with papers and projects...oh my I'm too old for this :)
