Has anyone found out what teacher their child(ren) will have this fall?  We just found out who Cooper will have for fourth grade and... well... I'm not thrilled.  The teacher he has for this year taught 5th grade last year and she just isn't the most friendly person in the world.

So, how do you feel about teacher assignments for the year? Have you ever asked for a specific teacher or requested a classroom change before?

Our open house is next Thursday night, so I am assuming we'll get the teacher assignment in the mail before then, if not, they'll let us know at the open house. There are 4 kindergarten teachers and I really want Emma to have one particular one, she is my ODD's former gymnastic's coach's wife and she's wonderful. I didn't go as far as requesting her, but I spoke with her at kindergarten round up and she was hoping she'd also get Emma, so I guess we'll see what happens. I don't know about any of the other teachers so I can't say if I'd have any other preference at all. As for ODD, I never requested specific teachers, I figured she's going to see all types over the years, she needs to get used to working with all different personalities and unless there is a very specific reason, I always left it be. Her first grade teacher was an older lady and she was a yeller, ODD's best friend's mom ended up requesting a switch half way through the first semester because the teacher had her DD so scared because of the constant yelling she didn't want to go to school anymore.

They don't let us request specific teachers. They even go so far to say that if we make a request, it will guarantee that we will NOT get the teacher we requested. :smileymad:

I would be the one that would then purposely go in and request the teacher I definitely DON'T want, but that's just me. :smileywink:

LOL!  No kidding!  What a crazy way to do things. You'd think they would want you to be happy with classroom assignments.  As parents we often know what personalities work best with our children. 

I have had to ask for a classroom change before.  I felt awful about it, but my son was not doing well at all with the teacher he was initially assigned to. He was so depressed and his self confidence was shot.  He stayed in her class for about 6 weeks before I asked for the change. Once he was in a different class, things improved greatly.

I'm not sure when we'll get Riley's assignment, but we have open house at the middle school tomorrow for Kolby.
I haven't ever asked for a change. But, I wouldn't hesitate if one of my kids was having trouble with the teacher. :smileywink:

I found out Saturday when I went to sign Emma up for the after school care that we may get a postcard from the teacher, but they actually post the class listing on the front door of the school. All I thought was "how old fashioned" since that's how I found out what teacher I got when I was in elementary school. I haven't been past the school yet, so I told ODD if she drives past, stop and see if the list is up yet or not. If anything, i guess we'll find out when we show up for open house on thursday.

I'm starting to wonder if that's not what they do here as well. Tracy. We haven't heard anything about Riley's teacher.

One of the ladies on Emma's old expecting board posted that they got a postcard in the mail the other day saying "to find out who your teacher is, log on to the online grade system on Tuesday". And this was a pretty big district. Talk about a waste of time, resources, and money just to mail all those postcards!

Wow. Seems it would have been just as easy to actually put the teacher's name on the postcard.

YAY! We just got an Evite from Emma's kindergarten teacher and its the one we hoped for!! I am so excited for her now, her teacher is such an awesome lady!
