19 yo son's first gf

Hi, I'm new.  Hoping this forum will help me through a little turbulence right now.  My son is 19 and has a "friend" who is 17.  They have been on and off as friends for a few years.  This year she asked him to her junior prom and promptly uninvited him a few weeks before it.  Frankly, I was ecstatic.  However, he has been talking again to her, saying they are just friends.  When I look on my cell web site which lists calls and texts, they text nearly 24/7 and talk at 1 or 2 a.m. in the morning frequently.  I guess I'm old-fashioned because I tell him if you go out to the movies, you should say good-bye for the night.  I just don't think it's healthy to have a 24/7 connection going on.  He said she is begging him to go out with him, but he wants to be just friends.  I keep saying that he is leading her on with all the texting and talking.  Does anyone else feel this is unhealthy?  Is it normal?  Am I being too nosy and should I stay away?  It always ends up in an argument between us-- I suppose I'm a bit jealous because I feel that we haven't spoken since he was in 7th grade other than grunts and groans, and he has been talking/texting to this girl.... Advice, please?
